This, Se7en and Fight Club are probably my favorite Fincher films. Yeah, the ending is pretty hard to accept but rather than being a movie that IS about a mystery(i.e the solving of said mystery being the ultimate end of the film), this film is more about enjoying the time while IN the middle of the mystery. Michael Douglas's performance pretty much sells it in that respect for me. Even though I've seen this movie many, many times I can always pop it in and enjoy the feel of the main character going through the mystery. That's it's true redeeming aspect for me. Otherwise, it would probably suck or at least lose it's appeal after the first viewing since after which I know what the ending is(Usual Suspects is more like what I'm describing now....never as good as the first time).
