This is just what it sounds like. I figured since the teaser of the 2014 Godzilla blew everybody away I would make a thread to discuss the original Godzilla films. Ones we love. Ones we hate. Ones we find under appreciated.
I'm glad there is a large Godzilla fandom on these boards. I've found most of the Kaiju centric boards I've tried to post on where somewhat unwelcoming so I'll be happy to discuss these films with a more open set folks.
I think it would be fun to just discuss the films at random and not go in order. We all know most consider the original Gojira a classic and one of/the best of the series. I'd like to start by highlighting an entry in the Heisei (my favorite) series that seems to get overlooked. It's not hated or anything, but it just never seems to get mentioned.
Godzilla Vs. Mothra: The Battle For Earth.
I love this movie. It's in my top 10 G-flicks for sure. It's got a cheesy Indiana Jones rip off vibe going on and the "SAVE THE EARTH!" message is pure Saturday morning cartoon, but thankfully it's not overdone or preachy. The pacing is some of the most even in any Godzilla film. I don't watch it waiting and itching for the Kaiju stomping to show up. It has some decent characters to boot. The battles and effects are top notch. I especially love the sea battle with Godzilla the larva Mothra and Battra.
I'd say this is one of the most sound G-flicks on an effects level. It's just an all around solid Godzilla movie. It doesn't make you antsy for the good stuff to happen, the Indy stealing is fun to watch, the characters above average for a Kaiju film and exciting and well executed action scenes.
