The Grinch Refuge Thread

my family has grown significantly this year so it has been an absolute pain wrapping gifts next year i'm just buying bags

Christmas has become so commercialized and taken over by the global companies and Santa ****ing Claus that people don't even know why we celebrate the holiday in the first place and is more about selling toys and presents. I'm the rare breed of teenager that never really looks forward to Christmas.

Christmas has always been about the money. Mostly every culture has had some kind of end of the year festival, shindig, etc. where people give each other gifts in the spirit of whatever mythology they had at the time. When Christmas became Christmas it was pretty much about stimulating the economy through the latest religion, and people just dressed it up nice to look good for future generations. Whenever modern Western Civilization declines there will be something else that replaces Christmas as some end of the year celebration that is basically just getting people to buy stuff.

That's why I have my music with my noise canceling headphones wherever I go. It makes things much better when I don't have to hear thirty different groups sing jingle bells in a row. I actually enjoy christmas music any time of year except now.

Christmas to me is a time of the year when I get together with a bunch of people that hate my guts. Each each I get to be reminded how much of a "loser" I am and how not "perfect" like everyone else. I really need to think about taking a trip somewhere for the holidays. Preferably far away from them.

If I ever have children, I'm not doing the whole Santa Claus thing.

also, I suck at wrapping gifts. But I still try to every year... you can plainly tell which ones are from me :(

I'm going to a white elephant gift exchange party after Christmas, and we are supposed to bring something inexpensive, odd, and useless. I'm so excited to bring a 4 foot long inflatable banana. Dunno how I'm gonna wrap that though.

I would advise to not inflate it before you wrap it up... :woot:

Since my daughter grew up I have pretty much gained a complete apathy toward Christmas.

I don't look forward to it at all and if it wouldn't piss my partner off, I would choose to just work as normal.

But then I pretty much feel the same about New Year too.

But that's half the fun!

What about any other holiday? With your affinity for costuming, I figured you might like Halloween?

This song sums up my feelings about xmas pretty well.

The war on Christmas is clearly caused by all the molar decay running rampant.

No YOU'RE ruining Christmas. *Runs crying* I hate you all.

And that was a dramatic re-enactment of every xmas until I was in my 20's.

Halloween is not so bad, but it's nowhere near as big in the UK as it is in the USA.

:down You know its not for you right? Its for your children.

Yep, exactly. But I don't want to subject them to this magical, and in my opinion lazy excuse to tell kids "be good or no presents." It's not my style, and I don't favor lying to them to make it easier on me. Christmas will be about family and giving back to the community, not "don't annoy me or Santa won't come."

Wise and correct words. But difficult to instil with the consumerism that has become Christmas... Unfortunately.
