Ive bought a lot of DVD's over the last month but ive got enough for one more and this film seems to have been well recieved
Now im not a huge horror fan but the trailer seemed to show a movie that isn't just a slasher flick with an unkillable nut in a mask
So i ask yee the SHH misc movies faithful,is it worth a purchase ?

BTW i don't rent

Mmmmmmmmmm,

Sort of ... its ok.

I tend to just buy movies I love or at least really like.

So in my honest opinion I would say no .... not worth the money.

Nah. If you were going to buy it wait till your local video store puts it on sale for 9.99 or something. It was ok but it was mostly a gorefest.

I felt that this movie was good. I rented it, and it was a pretty good movie. Aaron Stanford was good in it. I'd say its worth your money.

I don't know if any movie sucks that much

I'm hardly a horror fan in the least, and I would highly highly recommend it. It's incredibly beautiful and though not "scary" it's quite a ride. One of the best films of the year, really. If you don't like it, I'll say I'm sorry for hyping it so much...but yes, it's definitely worth your cash.

Yeah, a gorefest that spent about 45 minutes developing the characters before the horror really hits.

It's easily the best movie of the year so far. Craven's original film was good, but left room for improvement, as Aja's film showed.

Im a big horror fan and true the movie did have a good deal of CD I just wish they had cut back on the gore a tad. Leave a little to the imagination. I rented it but I cant see myself paying $17 for it on dvd.

Aja isn't one for leaving things to the imagination, he takes things to the extreme and delivers the uncompromising balls to the wall horror that's saving the genre these days, and that's why I love him.

Question:I'm not a fan of just watching ppl get slaughtered so does the family fight back in the film or is it just grim death for them ?

Im not familar with Aja work... at least I dont think I am. What else has he done.

I like my gore but sometimes I want a movie to freak me out with what I dont or cant see.

None of them die until the halfway point, at which a few of them die in a brutal attack and the survivors are left to fight back.

Cool,so is it part action part horror ? also
the brutal attack you mention,is it in the trailer where they surround it ? i heard it was one of the most harrowing ever put onscreen, woudl you agree ?

Rent it before you decide whether or not to buy it. I bought it on dvd but it isn't something that I could get into watching repeatedly. After you've watched so many horror movies in your lifetime one could pretty much say that there isn't anything in this movie that one hasn't seen before.

I agree with renting it first. If you like it then just wait till it goes on in the 9.99 or less bin. That will only be a couple of months or maybe sooner.

Yeah, that scene gets pretty graphic. Not sure if it's one of the most disturbing scenes ever, but it gets brutal.

I'm a hardcore horror buff that's VERY accustomed to cinematic violence, and it's definitely one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen in a theatre, especially after how well Aja did at characterizing the victims beforehand.

It's not only extremely unnerving, it's heartbreaking.

One of themmen is being burnt alive outside of the trailer as a diversion so that they can have their way with the women inside of it.

I like what im hearing about the characters having full arcs that include fighting back as well as would you say making the characters likeable so you feel their pain ?

One of the things that left me with no desire to see Hostel(other than the vile premise)was the fact i read that the characters ellicit zero sympathy so you don't care what happens to them

do you see them "having there way" ? cos that would make me kinda uncomfortble
