In a later interview with Gold Derby, McBride revealed that shooting won't begin again until next year. So don't expect to see the second season until 2021 at the earliest.

But he did have some good news: the Gemstones could be getting a little festive. "To get our crew back to work and to give audiences another piece of the Gemstones, since they won’t get it this year, I’ve written a Christmas special that we’re going to try to shoot and it will be an hour long and about a two-week shoot, so hopefully, we get to do it," he said. Patterson mentioned the Christmas special plan in an interview in July as well, saying, "That's the plan. I mean, huge fingers crossed!"
