The Influence Horror had on Superheroes

Very insightful. And I think that horror will continue to be a growing influence in superhero comics. Marvel Zombies is just a blatant example. Soon it will be superhero/horror comics.

You mean like the current Swamp Thing and Animal Man comics?

Which are effin' awesome by the way. :o

Marvel Comics have always lagged behind DC in this area.

Ironic the artical shows a lot of Marvel Horror influences, ala Hulk, Green Goblin.

DC really incorporated much more horror books into their universe though, Swamp Thing, Constantine, etc..

I felt like saying this but I had no where else to say this.

I wish Marvel would do more with Blade. Give him to a competent writer who understands what made the movie make Blade cool.

Thanks guys for all the complements! Means a lot!

You know, that's something I did notice when I wrote this...but to be honest, I just didn't follow most those DC characters as much so I didn't feel I personally had much room to discuss them. Ha! Plus they tend to be far older, Marvel being associated with the Silver Age, so I focused more on what Marvel derived from the earlier Universal flicks. I actually was thinking of others I could do eventually. I tried to avoid aliens entirely, there being an overwhelming amount of them. I could do an whole alien one for next Halloween.

Legion of Monsters is currently an awesome horror/comedy mini-series.

It did really make me think of stuff that never occurred to me.

Like the Hulk for example, I just never really saw the horror influence there, but now it really stands out.

Never really dawned on me that Marvel did have a ton of characters with a horror influence.

My Favorite Marvel horror characters were probably Werewolf by Night, Hellstrom, and West Coast Avenger's Night shift.

DC seemed like it pushed the Horror books(in the mode of tales from the crypt) more into the core of the mainline, House of Secrets type stuff.. Swamp Thing, Constantine, Deadman, Spectre, Phantom Stranger,Sandman etc..

Some of the "crypt keeper" type characters developed into characters actually used in the DC-verse.(like Cain and Abel in crisis)
