Because it uses EVERY. DAMN. CLICHE. In the book.

I've seen a heck of a lot of films, but none of them have ever been as predictable as The Island. It's quite stunningly unoriginal.

I thought it was good. How can you say it was so unoriginal?

But it wasnt meant to be was it? It was just an sci-fi action movie

Its funny, you can expect a "The Island" thread about ever month or so.

I don't see why it goes so much hate.

It's not great.....but no where near as bad as everyone says.

So was The Matrix. So was The Empire Strikes Back. So was Aliens. So was Terminator 2. So was Predator.

Because it was.

Think of every single cliche about cloning you can, and it's in The Island.

As I sat in the cinema, I thought, "This is so ridiculous, but surely they won't have a scene where the hero and the bad guy who look just like each other have a fight - and then someone with a gun has to choose which one is the real one. Surely not."

And you bet it was in there.

LMAO. So, so lame.

There are some great action scenes in there, don't get me wrong. I loved the truck/flying bike chase.

Do you think it deserved the massive levels of haterade it got though? I mean.....does it merit all the levels of it that it receieved?

B/c honestly, it sounded like it was the worst film ever made.......I've seen the worst film ever made, and this film ain't it.....

Scarlett is SO hot.

I finally saw this for the first time the other day. It was a typical Bay film, good to watch once, nice action, but not really worth a second look. Unless you just skip to Scarlett scenes. :)

Not at all, it's a mediocre film overall, average. It's mildly entertaining. Cinematography is good, action scenes are good.

hm... so the island has to live up to some of the greatest sci fi movies to be considered original?

tough logic.

when I first heard of this movie, I really did expect it to be awesome... I mean, it has a really good cast and I was thinking it would have more of a "Brave New World meets action film" kind of feel, if you get what I'm saying. I finally watched it on hbo this week, and oh my... it was bad

we get the island conversations like this everyday in the transformers thread :(

I didn't find the movie too bad... but the endless product placement annoyed the ***** out of me.

Didnt mind the product placement to be honest, fitted in nicely I thought. I only dislike it when its too forced, the "mack" truck being the only stand out for me, as it was just a close up of a mack logo and nothing else. The msn search on the cell phone didnt bother me etc

Read the quote I'm replying to.

What I'm saying is that there is nothing 'just' about a sci-fi action movie (or any genre), as illustrated by the classics I listed, and it is no excuse for lack of creativity.

Hey, come on man. What happens in that warzone STAYS in that warzone. :csad:

Because it's a Michael Bay piece of ****.

It started out well enough, to the point to where I thought maybe, just MAYBE Michael Bay has made a movie that doesn't suck royally. However, when the action started and Bay was so out of ideas he had to self-plagiarize, then I knew it was indeed a Michael Bay movie. Ridiculous over the top action and typical ADD editing reaffirmed the common idea that Bay is a talentless hack.

And then the bozos had the audacity to blame the CAST!! No, blame your macho, egotistical director that doesn't know how not to use cliches to tell his stories.

The Rock
though.

The only movie I like from Bay is Armageddon and Amityville horror remake.

The Island bombed because everything was given away in the trailer. Like Cast Away...but everybody loves Tom Hanks (or a lot of peeps do) and decided to see it anyway.
