Which is better: Ace Ventura 1 or 2?

I'm thinking 2. There were so many more memorable scenes (rhino birth scene, come on!!) and over-all I just liked it better. It felt like he really just let loose in this flick.

No comparison. The original by far.

- Slow motion replay (button hook pattern)
- The "gala" scene (do NOT go in there!)
- The opening scene

I could go on and on but it has always been my favorite Jim Carrey movie.

Yeah, 1 by far. The sequel is too much of a rehash of the same jokes.

the first 30 mins of ace 2 are absolute GOLD (slinky? yak? you must be the monopoly guy?) and if the movie wouldve kept it up, it wouldve been WAY better than the first.

but it started dragging afterwards. still some funny stuff though.

I like them about the same. Both have some great moments. Haven't watched them in a while though, I'll have to re-watch.

The Mask is probably my favourite Carey comedy film.

Definitely the first film... nearly everything in it is quotable. The 2nd one is still choice, but felt looking back is just a complete rehash of the first.

What in the god damn hell? Really? I am going to have to go back and watch the second one again but from what I can remember, as DarkKnight stated, the second is just re-hasing the same jokes, no originality at all.

I didn't think the second one was a rehash. Like, at all. Different setting, different characters, different jokes.

The jokes may not have been verbatim, but same joke with different spin, subject, topic, et cetera. But that's why I said I will have to go back and re-watch it. Maybe I am missing something.

There are many funny and memorable scenes from both and while the first is probably the overall better film, I have always preferred the second.

When Nature Calls is better. The first one is a pretty bad movie outside of Jim Carrey's performance. He carried that movie. When Nature Calls felt more cohesive and the gags were funnier.

I remember being a huge fan of Jim Carrey when Ace Ventura 2 came out, but when I saw the movie I thought this is a big steaming pile of $#!t. Ace Ventura 1 is by far better than 2.

I thought the second was funnier when I was younger. I used to think using the monopoly guy as a scarf was the funniest thing in the world and also the rhino birth.
Haven't watched these movies in years though so I'm not sure which was actually better or why that matters.

Ouch, this is a "Sophies Choice" for me because I loved both movies.

But if I had to pick I'd go with the first one.

I haven't seen the first one in ages, but I'm quite fond of When Nature Calls. Thats something I grew up watching over and over again.
