Sounds weird as f***, & apparently went over well at Cannes.

Written by Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou, The Lobster was shot in Kerry in the spring of 2014, and has a cast that's full of stars including Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Léa Seydoux, John C Reilly, Ben Whishaw, Olivia Colman and Michael Smiley.

The movie, which screened last night at the 68th edition of the prestigious film festival, has been roundly praised by some of the most influential titles and critics in attendance. Variety called it "a wickedly funny, unexpectedly moving satire of couple-fixated society" while The Hollywood Reporter sums it up as "a dark, deeply funny dystopian tale."

Irish audiences won't get to see it until the autumn, when it goes on general release, but according to Indiewire, we can expect "deadpan humor and surrealism" while The Guardian call it "bizarre and hilarious".

In particular, Farrell came in for praise, with The Telegraph highlighting his performance as being particularly noteworthy and "every bit as funny and hang-doggedly adorable as he was in Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges". All signs point towards good news both for the Irish Film Board, who were involved with financing and ensuring the movie was able to shoot here, as well as Farrell, while whispers of it making the list for the Oscars at this early stage are not to be ignored.

Has been getting excellent reviews at Cannes apparently.

Nice. Always good to see Weisz in something worth watching. :yay:

I can't wait for this!

Any of ya'll seen Dogtooth? Bat**** cray cray.

I love Farrell and Weisz, and the premise sounds wonderfully insane, so I'm in.

I watched this. It's f****** odd, funny, fantastic and I loved it.

In my Top 10 of 2015.

Thanks for the bump mate.

Watched it the other night and it's whacky but good. Wouldn't be in my top 10 like, If I did one.
