What are you guys doing exactly to fix all of this? I mean you've taken the board down 3 times already for 6 days and 6 nights in total(one would think that would be enough), and we haven't seen any improvement whatsoever.

So why not keep it down until you fix everything?

As I said before, I'm not 100% sure, since Mirko called in the professionals to do this. But I know he's got threadprune running, as well as reindexing, and, if he does as I recommended, he's also optimizing the tables.

I mean you've taken the board down 3 times already for 6 days and 6 nights in total(one would think that would be enough), and we haven't seen any improvement whatsoever.

And you're probably not, until it's all done.

So why not keep it down until you fix everything?

You guys whine, moan, *****, rant, cry, fuss, complain, grumble, and pitch a fit when it's down for a weekend. Imagine it being down for a week or more. Like I told another poster on AIM, it's pitifully sad to see you guys go to another forum, and since you can't have SHH, you try to terra-form the other place into SHH, instead of trying to enjoy it on it's own merit. THAT'S why you're not allowed a SHH thread over on CS.

Well its not exactly the best time to be doing maintenance with the movies coming out... doing this in middle July when there is nothing to talk about is a lot better... it should've been done around February... this has been going on for some time now...

What you are basically saying when you complain about how you can't live without the hype is one of the following

1. I am addicted to the internet

In which case, for ****s sake get a grip on yourself. Plus...go to another forum? It's still the internet

2. I DON'T HAVE ANY FRIENDS OFFLINE

I'm guessing this is the more common of the two options.

IN WHICH CASE DRAK IS DOING YOU A FAVOUR BY TURNING THE HYPE OFF.

Maybe just maybe you'll go out and experience the outside world for a change.

Maybe you'll meet some new people.

Maybe you'll actually LIVE your ****ing lives for once.

Either way it comes as a blessing as it'll be two less days of whiney *****es complaining about maintance. (and by that I mean I'll be down the pub rather than as CS )

Yes, new users can't start new threads. You need to make two posts, and then from there, you have to wait for the scripts to run to update your usergroup [which is like every :15 and :45]. This prevents spambots, since they only make new threads.

I am going to inquire to the ISP about a few things.
I have looked and it has to be a issue with the response time between the webservers and the database servers.

We have been working diligently to resolve this.
What we have done up to this point.

Step 1:
As you have noticed we have deleted 5,000,000 (yes 5 million) posts to try to shrink the database. It shrunk it of course, just didnt see much in the way of site performance.

Step 2:
We have cleaned the users. We have deleted numerous users.

We have a few options at this point.
Some mean changing the board itself to reduce load. This means you loose functionalifty, like Alphabetically listed users in the Users online list. That is just a minor one, there are many that are much more used, and we dont think you would be happy they were removed.

Then of course, after all the above, if this does not restore the performance we have 2 LAST options
1) Start the board from SCRATCH....which I dont think you or we are willing to do.
2) Do some serious server upgrades to the system. New servers for a significant cost increase for SHH and ComingSoon.

Reading that it seems like it could turn into a no win situation,the alphabetical thing is annoying but not a big deal and not as missed as the ability to view who is viewing sections but beyond that i can't think of any features that are "loseable"

The reboot seems to be an option no one wants and the server upgrade i guess would be something the owners would have to really analyse to see if it's worth it,i mean the lag can be annoying but is it that annoying ?

I wonder would closing registration help ? ive not seen any other forum where a server has to handle nearly this many users

Also what about some of the barely used sections,are they not just stretching the server more ? stuff like Bond could be put into misc movies and Hellboy,Sin City and Iron Man into Misc/Marvel movies given how few posts they have if it would help.

Sure that may help a little bit the main sections & stuff but people will still just whine about those sections being slow. The best sure thing right now that seems would work is the complete delete everything & start over (which would suck but desperate measures calls for desperate means & yes the lag is that slow). Moving things to another place wont make any difference in the long run & the server upgrade thing is probably going to be something that everyone chipping in would need to do & Hellboy will be used soon actively because they start filming the sequel sometime next month & I think Iron Man is fairly active & that movie is filming now.

I as thinking of the server not being stretched out if it's power was more concentrated with less sections but maybe you're right,i'm not a tech person

Hellboy will get used but not much if it's anything like the first movie's traffic
