Just watching it now for the first time and all those newpaper headlines were quite powerful. Made me think they should've incorporated more of a feeling of Superman disappearing. Seeing peoples shocks at events and despair. Also nice to see Peters admit he was wrong (we all knew that 10 years ago!!)

As for "action, adventure, love story, comedy" mentioned by Harris?. Drop the comedy bit for the sequel.

You refering to the deleted scene with the papers in the barn basement or the headlines splashed across the opening which were supposed to be in the opening of Returns?

The opening bit, not seen the deleted scene bit yet.

The dates on the newspapers explain alot about SR's history too. There are some key origin differences compared to STM.

Those newspapers are from the original opening for the movie, I wished they used them.

^Yeah that scene and the scene were Clark finds out about Martha and Ben should have been left in.

I'm kinda almost tempted to start a petition on BT to have a newspaper opening to the sequel with flashback shots of the origin of THIS Superman (similar to the flashback opening of Superman II)

It would clear up all the vague history questions in the first 5 minutes!

*Jonathan and Martha finding Clark as a child

*Clark discovering the spaceship and crystal

*Clark throwing the crystal into the ice and forming the Fortress, seeing Jor-El

*Superman (Routh) appearing saving Lois (Kate Bos) from a falling helicopter

etc.... leading all the way up to the newspaper headlines of 'Krypton found' and flashback shots of Superman deciding to leave...

and then, go right into the Return to Krypton sequence to do Brainiac's origin

Sounds good. Or they could summarize the last film and cover what Superman did after his return.

I think we will get more info on all the vague history and what is and isnt in, in the sequel for some reason. I just have a feeling Singer will touch upon it more.

Adding in those deleted scenes of Clark on the farm would make the opening less abrupt, two lines by Brandon and we're off to the Daily Planet! Those scene would of given an intorduction to the character and more screen time and lines to Brandon, where as the film had him hardly saying a word as it is. The editting could of been better, I hope someday Singer re-edits these scenes back in and also the return to Krypton footage. I wish (and it's a long shot) that he'd restore the films color, instead of the orange color the film has now! Where's the deleted scene of young Clark finding the space ship under the barn?

I agree CG, the editing was shaky at best.

I do agree he should have left in the Clark on the farm scene'sm some great character moments there, but i cant think of anything significant he could have cut to make room for them.

Singer doesn't have to cut anything out to make room for those scenes, all he has to do is add them back in and we'd have a longer cut!

can i get a screencap of that?

Singer has never been the type to do extended or Directors cuts though, though i hope he changes his mind with SR, the theatrical SR is just too short IMO!!!!!!!

I found the 2nd disc of special features to be quite boring and f**king atrocious.

Wouldnt a great real-life advert for the film have been a full page spread in popular papers hinting that superman might have returned?. After the tragic death of reeve i remember papers proclaiming "superman is dead" it was iconic, no other actor playing a comic book character could get such coverage maybe Keaton if god forbid he died.
