I know they are popular and tie into his other works but I read the first DARK TOWER book and it didn't grab me for whatever reason. I can't make a claim to being a huge King fan or anything though.

Drawing of Three is when it starts getting really good.

They definitely are not for everyone. Very polarizing by all accounts. They do cross territories from a few well known books like IT, The Stand, and Salem's Lot.

Most get hooked in by The Drawing of the Three. For me, the wierdness of The Gunslinger combined with Roland's character in the first book were a strong enough hook to keep me going. Roland, along with Stannis, are a couple of my favorites in the fantasy genre.

Like DUNE, I keep meaning to check it out again but then never follow through. I read the first book and wasn't gripped enough to continue.

I find that idea intriguing, but being an old Marvel/DC guy the "connected universe" stuff was always of interest to me, and reading THE STAND the Flagg character being a main villain in another book was also cool to me. Still, never got around to continuing. I think I should read the DUNE books and the DARK TOWER sometime before the year is out.

The first Dark Tower book is basically Roland and Jake in a depressing post-apocalyptic Sergio Leone film. That's not exactly a representation of what the series is as a whole, which is basically King's own take on Tolkien/King Arthur.

Yeah it was pretty much that from memory, but what you are describing sounds more up my alley.

That Myers and The Kids In The Hall both based "villains" from AUSTIN POWERS and BRAIN CANDY on Lorne Michaels gives me pause to ever actually want to meet the man.

That Myers is the best Myers.

And On Showtime Beyond, and movie called REEKER is coming on.. I suggest everyone watch it and ignore the 29% it received.
