The Midnight Sky

Researched this movie yesterday. Book is supposed to be pretty good and it is a solid cast & crew that Clooney has assembled. Not a huge fan of Clooney as a director but this sounds like the kind of story that could push him a bit.

The fact that Oyelowo plays an astronaut in this and that a global catastrophe is involved had me joking to myself that maybe it is an Interstellar sequel where the school principal goes to space.

So, Interstellar meets The Martian meets Sunshine, with a bit of Gravity thrown into the mix?

I’m in.

Yeah looks similar to many other Sci-fi movies recently but they were all good movies so no shame taking from them.

Enjoyed the trailer for this and will watch when it comes on.

It was Ok.

Something like that yes but not as good as any of them.
It was OK, it's a slow paced movie, Clooney is fine, visuals are good.
A good Netflix production.
Edit: and it's family friendly (there is one visually scary scene with a frozen corpse)

I started watching, but couldn't get past half-way through the film.

Painfully slow-paced and uneventful film. Barely anything happens and i am usually hooked by almost every sci-fi film i watch. Minimal space shots.

It's more of an Ad Astra than Interstellar/The Martian and i really don't mean that in a good way.

Make of that what you want.

I didn’t mind the slow pacing at all. I just found the story to be rather thin (and predictable). Apparently based on a novel; so perhaps the original was more substantial...

I watched this last night. Wasn't terrible, but left a lot to be desired.

I felt it was rather slow moving and even though understand why there was no true explication for what happened on Earth, I wish we'd gotten one.

I felt confused too as to whether there were actually any survivors on Earth short of Augustine; two of the crew headed back down to bury their comrade and to seek out ones family.

Would they even be there? Was Earth ultimately doomed? Was there any real need of an imaginary child?

Netflix gets big name stars for their movies but have yet to actually have them star in a movie that is good.

But I will say I got ten minutes into this one and had to turn it off.

Clooney can get an accomplished crew together and make something that should be good but I wasn't seeing much inspiration or real vision from the direction. It felt very polished but very by-the-numbers.

Want to finish it, though, at some point.

I thought it was ok. The film was very predictable in my opinion so none of the supposed twists/revelations had any impact since I guessed them from the get go.

Watched this last night and I didn’t think it was bad. Definitely felt like I was watching two different movies, one with Clooney’s character and the child venturing off in the snow to get to the satellite and another with a space crew trying to get home. Made the movie feel very uneven but it was beautifully shot and well acted

Watched this last night, it was okay, I could see what a Clooney was going for but it didn’t quite get there for me. The sci fi elements are done really well and we’re probably the best part of the movie.

It’s just once the ending comes you think
did it really take the end of the world for him to get in touch with his daughter? I know humans are flawed and have demons but felt a bit of a stretch
. Makes you not really like the main character that much.

Some stand out pieces help break up the slow pace, which I didn’t mind, and
Mara’s death was surprisingly disturbing for the rating and quite sad also
. The acting, effects and direction were all really good, but like Ad Astra last year, the end kind of puts a downer on the whole movie. 7/10

I agree with everyone that it was just alright. Not terrible but not as good or interesting like I was expecting.
