Just came back from seeing this.

The first film is still my favorite, but I liked this. Especially the finale.

so how much of jet li is cgi and how much is him, i read somewhere that he was unavailable for 90% of the filming

I thought that it was going to drop harder than that, so color me surprised. It should do like 15mil and not drop the 66 to 70percent that I thought it would. Not saying that 60% is a good drop but it's better than I thought.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is not an abomination, but it is bad enough to make me appreciate The Mummy Returns as a superior film and sequel. It lacked the Sommers feel that was a driving force in the franchise. Maria Bello was not bad as Evie, and though it wasn't as good as Rachel Weisz, it was still a good performance after I adjusted to the recast. I did like Luke Ford as Alex O'Connell. I wish this Alex was in The Mummy Returns. Even though the film was less hammy than it's predecessor, the overall quality of the film was low. When Rob Cohen was announced as the director, I was sure that he could have delivered, at least, a decent film (like The Fast and the Furious, which I like), but I was dead wrong. Despite the critical reception of The Mummy Returns, Stephen Sommers should have never given up the director's chair. It would have been better that way.

Rating:

- 2 out of 4 stars
- 5 out of 10

Oh yeah, Miles and Gough (the creators of Smallville for those who don't know) show how big of hacks they are with this script. They are bad writers. Hell, The Mummy Returns had an amazing script/plot. It just wasn't executed well enough to embrace it.

I wouldn't call it amazing, but apart from the Scorpion King monster and the fact that they lifted a plot point from the first film and blatantly used it again (crazy British pilot navigates through a wall of elements created by Imhotep), it wasn't bad.

Love the bad guy. The guy who was in Leathal Weapon!

I loved it because not only was it a good enough plot to make resurrecting Imhotep back, but it had the bad guys searching to revive the Scorpion King and his Army of Anubis, the good guys trying to stop them, and Imhotep and Scorpion King actually having to battle each other for control over the Army of Anubis. The scope was grand, but the execution was horrible. When I was watching the film, I was thinking the film was going to be so different.

Maybe not amazing, but I thought it could have been grand.

Hey I enjoy the first two Mummy movies a hell of a lot. I was excited as hell when I walked out of The Mummy 9 years ago. It was a great, fun ride. And it kind of reinforced that you can start the summer earlier than Memorial Day with stuff like Star Wars, which although it did huge that year, a lot of fans consider it to be a black sheep of sorts.

And basically what screwed this movie was losing Stephen Sommers and Rachel Weisz. Rob Cohen is a ****ing action hack director, and it's basically like going from Bryan Singer to Brett Ratner.

Rachel Weisz to Maria Bello is a downgrade whatever way you look at it.

Also, The Mummy Returns was at least faithful to the story set up in the first one as well as the continuity and timeline it established. The Mummy 3 just tosses it out the window. And you have this terrible grown man they have playing Rick's son. Geezus Christ, Weisz was very wise not to do this piece of ****.

So I'm disappointed that they had to go with the lame ass third movie route rather than making something that's at least as good as the previous ones.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2008-08-08&p=.htm Slightly higher with BOM at 69%. 60% drop is in line with my earlier predictions.

I said it did not feel like a Stephan Sommers directed Mummy Movie. He may have produced it but i imagine he was busy with GI Joe to care really. A Sommers directed film has a look to it and Cohen doesn't have his imagination in my opinion.
Stephan Summers had a writing credit but it i think it was back with the characters form first two films and it appeared uncredited.

And you are right.

I mean Sommers is not Spielberg or whatever, but his movies do have a certain tone and feel that is fun to watch and I honestly feel different than the usual hacks.

That's kind of why I wish he'd be doing something like Flash Gordon instead of GI JOE. Now for Flash Gordon we are stuck with f'n BRECK EISNER, and Sommers playing the "producer" role again like he did for this picture.

Breck "SAHARA" Eisner.

Well give new directors chances is my opinion. I think casting is everything as long as Brendon is not cast as Flash it may be ok. The differance could be did he even want to do a Mummy 3 and did he want to see Flash Gordon on the big screen.

seen it last night, was really really bad. seriously i enjoyed the first two, but this one. it had some high points though not many

the yeti looked decent though i could have done without the bloody touchdown joke, how can you get some on like jet li who does a great bad guy and basiclly have him grunt and groan though the entire movie

Maria Bello was terrible compared to Rachel Weisz, she just looked out of place, and the stupid in joke of her being a completely different person was just a roll your eyes moment

the humour was stupid i know the first 2 had smiler moments but the 3rd just seemed out of place

the fight scenes were tolerable, but Stephen Sommers showed more restraint(never thought i would say that) i know evy is meant to be a reincarnated and know how to fight but the when they start using wwe moves its getting stupid

i can admire them for wanting to movie in a new direction but i really missed Arnold Vosloo's imhotep, he seemed to bring something to the franchise.

i really enjoyed the first two along with the ride but this was just a poor third to the series, sadly the trilogy curse strikes again

Eisner's not really a new director though. And his last movie was one of the biggest flops of all time.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/

The Mummy 3 drops 60% in its third weekend to bring its total US gross to about $70 million. However its very possible it will make over $100 million US, so looks like I could be wrong about that :D .

I enjoyed the movie. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable . I liked the backstory for Emporer Han and i thought that played out interesting enough . Basically The Chinese actors were the highlight of the film . The actor playing alex did a decent job but it didn't feel like that was really The O'Connels son . Maria Bello didn't do it for me at all in this movie and I'm not sure why . The part with the abominable snowmen was cool . The special effects were good especially at the end when Han transforms . The humor didn't really work out that well for this movie either. the line at the end " mummies were just found in peru" kinda fell flat.

The Imhotep bar at the end was a nice touch though. I was expecting some sort of cameo at the end but the villian in this film was good enough .
