I was the first person to say $300 million+ for Iron Man when everyone was saying NO CHANCE IN HELL. Right now the movie might actually crawl its way to $320 million US.

This was after MONTHS and MONTHS of saying it wouldn't get to $200M.

I don't think I ever said Iron Man could not or would not make $200 million. $200-225 million was right around my original predictions. As I recall, you were also skeptical about how big its opening could also be Rider.

But after opening weekend, I was the only saying $300 million.

Yes I was skeptical, never said i wasn't, but there were lots in that forum saying it could do 300M BEFORE the opening, you just jumped on that bandwagon AFTER the colossal opening.

I agree with everything you've said about this Mummy movie (it's a dud) but who really cares about your Iron Man prediction? You made a prediction on one movie that came true, and you're using it to validate your argument, when in reality, you're no more of a box office expert than any of us. It's pretty lame of you.

Like who besides Advanced Dark?

LOL...and this one prediction makes you correct on all other predictions?

Dude, the weekday #'s will be Dark Knight still at $5 million plus. This opening was the worst possible opening for this film in a crowded summer. The weekday numbers won't be impressive. Also if it follows similar to other similar movies, the second weekend drop will be significant.

I'm not talking about The Dark Knight's weekday numbers. Yes, they will be great but this thread is about The Mummy and I say you have to wait for the weekday numbers and the drops it will have through Thursday to predict what will happen over the weekend.

THAT SUCKS! Don't you get it. The first movie opened to $43 million in May of 1999. Over nine years ago. This movie made LESS than the first one opening weekend. The first movie was budgeted at about $80 million and did very well. This movie is budgeted at about $150 million or more. It costs way more than the first one.

It does not suck. If you look at a third film that opened over 6 years after the last sequel, they don't really perform like the last one did. Rush Hour 3 is an example, opened at $49 million when the second opened at $67 million. It performed a little better due to it not having a huge juggernaut that pretty much is going for the same demographic. It also managed to get close to a 3x multiplier on bad reviews/WOM.

It's very bad.

No, it's not. It's a disappointment at best.

That's not why movies like this are greenlit. Also, they better be praying they come in #1 for the finals. Because the headlines on Monday will read that Dark Knight is #1. Universal is not going to be happy about that.

It won't matter if they come in number 1 or not. It's all about profit and how much money it will make. And yes, the international market can help a film get greenlit depending on the production company. And, looking over the international numbers, it's actually performing very well. In only 26 markets it has made $60 million over the weekend with another 24+ markets to open up in. It could get to $275+ million internationally and a worldwide tally of $400+ million, which would put it right where the other films landed worldwide (The Mummy = $416 million and The Mummy Returns = $433 million).

I'm definately renting this movie . It looks entertaining but I went and saw Step Brothers instead.

I don't think there will be a mummy 4. Even though the movie sets up for a another sequel anyway. But at least it's a good comeback for Fraser. He was in 2 big movies in one summer....whereas he was MIA for a while. I should give him work for a couple of more years

I wouldn't say there wouldn't be a Mummy 4 just yet. I think if it gets 400+ million worldwide, you may see a part 5. We'll see though.

Overall...Wise missing from the movie was the biggest flaw of the movie...I actually could forgive all the other nonsense in the movie if Rachel was in it...but Maria just took me out of the whole movie.

I also didn't like the son either. Sometimes recasting works...but this is one time where it was all wrong.

Personally...What they should have done with the O-Connell family was to have them face off against other Universal monsters. How about they take on the Creature of the Black Lagoon...

If they make another one, get that damn kid out of here. Not usually against hero's having sons, but this character was annoying in both sequels.

Kids alway mess up franchises IMO..It sucked in Superman and Zorro...and ruined the Mummy series.....Though I didn't mind it in Indy 4

Brendan Frasier looked great, loved the shirtless scene. Bello was killing me, I love her but she didn't work for me as Evie.

I was told that the Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh fight was highly anticipated. I thought it was okay, the woman certainly can hold her own.

That may have been the most disappointing scene of the movie honestly. I don't mind close-up shot fight scenes in films like Bourne and Batman, but this is Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, two legends going at it in an american film, and we screw it up! This may sound stupid to some, but that fight made me appreciate the forbidden kingdom even more, because that director knew how to shoot and cut the damn action.

If people want to see action they would rather see:

- James Franco and Seth Rogen get high whole being chased by Gary Cole, Rosie Perez, Darryl from "The Office" and others.
- Robert Downey Jr. as a black man.

QFT. Robert Downey Jr >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Stupid-ass PS2 graphics dragon

Yeah...American and directors from New Zealand *cough*Peter Jackson*cough* do not know how to film sword fights at all...
I hate it when they use slow-mo for fight scenes, and the camera's so close that you can't see what the hell is going on...

I've watched 17 movies in theater now this year. I only regret watching 2 and both had Jet Li. I don't blame him for this or Forbidden Kingdom but God, does he make crap in America.

i'm not a fan of Maria Bello, but she is really getting thrashed here, kinda feel sorry for her. But she was horrible as Evie. I can't believe i'm saying this but the movie might have been better if Evie was killed off in between the 2nd movie and the 3rd, then they could just reference the great Evie played by Weisz throughout the film. No one can replace Rachel Weisz.

Dark Knight's weekday numbers will be higher. Weekday numbers aren't going to mean very much for a movie like The Mummy 3, which is already getting TERRIBLE reviews. This movie isn't going to get good word of mouth and suddenly sprout strong legs.

Also, you have to look at how other movies like this perform, including the past Mummy films.

Rush Hour 3 still had a bigger opening weekend than the first movie, nine years after the release of Rush Hour.

Mummy 3, nine years after Mummy, opens up LOWER than that movie. The last Mummy sequel dropped almost 51% in its second weekend.

No, it's not. It's a disappointment at best.

I'm sure Nikki will try to spin it the same way on Monday.

Did you work on the movie?

If this is the case, I wonder where all the sequels for Van Helsing which made $300 million worldwide and was a strong DVD seller, are. Not all that money goes directly back to the studios either. A movie with larger international distribution will also have larger expenses as well.

I have to wait a week to see this now. :csad: I've heard it's not too bad.

You do know the director of Forbidden Kingdom wasn't Asian, right?

you could just watch a bootleg on the interent, and not waste any money, Gotham.

Weekday numbers always mean something to a movie and it will mean something to TM3. This isn't about TDK, which is doing fantastic. We are talking about TM3. There are many films that get TERRIBLE reviews and do well. What I was saying is that it's a bit premature to predict a huge drop next weekend without even seeing how the weekday numbers are. Weekday numbers and the drops it takes each day can help you gauge next weekend's drop. Also, you can't really compare this film with the previous Mummy films because they opened in May whereas this one is opening in August against the juggernaut that is TDK.

Rush Hour 3 still had a bigger opening weekend than the first movie, nine years after the release of Rush Hour.

Mummy 3, nine years after Mummy, opens up LOWER than that movie. The last Mummy sequel dropped almost 51% in its second weekend.

Rush Hour 3 didn't face a film that is a force of nature at the box office. But it still opened up less than the last sequel. The last Mummy film dropped 51% from a much bigger opening. I'm not saying TM3 will not drop huge, but you just never know with the box office. There is a chance it can hold well, you just never know.

No, I did not work on the movie, haven't even seen it yet. Anyways, I think there is a difference from a movie making exactly $300 million to one that could make $400 million worldwide and shall I remind you that if TM3 makes $400+ million worldwide it will be exactly where the previous two films landed. This film has a similar international distribution as the previous films so the expenses you state won't be all that much higher.
