yup... about $600

maya is probably triple.

i only really use zbrush for texturing. Ive found its pretty much useless for modeling.
to sculpt in zbrush you have to subdivide the model to about 1million polygons which would be useless once put into maya (it would take a million years to render lol). You could bring down the polycount whenever you like but that just ends up changing the smoothness of it all. It's good if you're soley interested in making models alone and not have them ever move.

the texture painting on it is great though..

another alternative is Autodesk Mudbox... ive never used it but it should be the same hopefully it has a better sculpting setup where you dont have to subdivide into a ridiculous amount.
 
ALOT of patience lol.... have you modeled anything yet?

Just simple stuff right now. We did a watch in class and I did a streetlight in my sparetime. Learned how to apply textures and bumpmapping too.

If you're a student or teacher, you can get a Maya package for $350. It's the student version, which as far as I can tell, only means you can't use the program for anything other than teaching or portfolio purposes.
