Whether they be downright cool-sounding or technically fluid, very basic or incredibly intricate, I'd like to hear more, outside of metal or not (I mainly listen to metal, but want to broaden my horizons).

I'm curious to expand my experiences and inspirations with bass. Plus, bass gets no love. :cmad:

I'll start off... Playing bass, my predominant inspiration is Cliff Burton. Here is a personal favorite solo of mine by Cliff Burton (also my favorite song/first song I ever learned):

Cliff Burton's bass masterpiece, Orion:

Some more:

Geddy Lee's Driven:

It might seem kind of cheesy, but I've always thought this had a great bass groove.

Radiohead - "National Anthem"

2 words: Les Claypool

Megadeth: peace sells, but who's buying?
Alice In Chains: would
RHCP: higher ground

John Myung from Dream Theater, if you're not already familiar

The Mars Volta - "Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt"
Done By Flea before they had a bass player, its in the middle of the song and awesome.

Fugazi - "Waiting Room"
The Opening bass line. Awesome.

NoFX - "See Her Pee"
30 second song about wanting to see a girl pee. Amazing bass line.

Lagwagon - "Give It Back"
Listen to the bass through this whole song, its so good.

Whenever i think of basslines, Nirvana's Lovebuzz cover always comes to mind first.
Every single one of Peter Hooks Joy Division Basslines are perfect aswell.
Then of course, there's Kim Deal. Her work with the Pixies and The Breeders is equally superb.

The Real Me - The Who
Incident On 57th Street - Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band

Jah Wobble's Public Image Ltd. stuff is also great! Check out the first album and Metal Box.

If you want me too Stay - Sly And the family Stone (pretty much everything done by Larry Grahmn is solid!)

Flashlight - Parliment (Booty Collins is the second best bassist after Mr. Grahmn)

777-9311 - the Time (on the album it's really Prince playing it not terry Lewis)

Come together - The Beatles ( Macca getting down all dirty on that bassline)

The Real Me - The Who ( John "The OX" Entisle doing what he does Bast)

Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2 (Adam Clayton bassline made that song)
