'Green Lantern' Wasn't Blake Lively's First Pick Among Superhero Projects

Blake Lively appears to be right at home on "Green Lantern" movie posters, and she's even looking ahead to her character's likely fall toward villainy. She had a burning desire to be cast in a superhero film, though, and even though she wanted to be a part of such a project, she admitted that "Green Lantern" wasn't first on her list of priorities.

"'Green Lantern' wasn't," Lively told MTV News, "I didn't know about 'Green Lantern.' That's what's so exciting about it. I was just saying, you know, to get to introduce it to a young generation is a cool thing."

Lively seemed most interested in providing a bridge between generations and seeing what it would be like to present the title hero to a new audience, including her own family members.

"My nephews, when I brought them to set, I had them put on the ring, and they were like, 'Oh, this is cool,' and I thought, 'In a year from now you're gonna be so happy that I made you take this picture,'" she explained.

And in the end, "Green Lantern" met those expectations and became the job she wanted it to be.

"Doing a superhero picture is something that just seems like so much fun, and it really was," the actress said.

Well, there are two big reasons for that... :hehe:
I have not a complaint but an observation about those. Her right boob has some weird-looking indent in the corner there. Not sure if it's either a trick of the light or an areola or not, but it's freaking me out just a little bit.

Double-sided tape maybe.

Oh yeah... sorry I about that. I ran into her one day on the street and stole a piece.

"so.....I just got back from TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) and I actually got to speak to Blake Lively (for a grand total of 20 seconds lol) and of course the only thing I asked her about was Carol Ferris and what the future holds for her in the Green Lantern movies, the answer I got back was "alot of pink and a skin tight CGI costume" and then she walked off before I could ask when we could expect that..............my boss got upset cause I was suppose to ask someone else a question...I just said I couldn't hear him cause there was alot of noise :p

I'm scheduled to actually go back later this week, I'm hoping to find her again and ask some more questions, I know there going to show Buried so even better I'm hoping to find Ryan Reynolds and ask him some questions "

'Green Lantern' Star Blake Lively Finds Strength In Carol Ferris, Wonders About CGI

When "Green Lantern" hits theaters next summer, don't hold your breath waiting for a damsel in distress to appear on the big screen. According to actress Blake Lively, her character of Carol Ferris is much more of a proactive heroine than the common superhero female lead.

"Playing women with strengths are the characters I'm most attracted to," Lively told MTV News while promoting her work in "The Town," director Ben Affleck's latest Boston-set crime thriller. "Being in a superhero movie opposite such amazing actors and an incredible director, and not just being a damsel in distress but a fighter pilot and [Hal's] boss at the company."

Indeed, Carol Ferris has quite a lot of strengths, including a capacity for great evil as the villainous Star Sapphire. But don't expect Lively to transform from Hal's love interest to his nemesis overnight.

"There are always winks and homages to certain things in the comics for the fans, but I don't think you'll know yet how evil she turns," she said. "Not yet."

Still, there are many aspects of "Green Lantern" that Lively isn't aware of, despite playing one of the film's central characters.

"With all of the special effects, you're in a big sound stage with blue walls, and the world that you're acting opposite will be created months after you're finished shooting," she said. "To watch that will be a very different experience, because I don't know half of what I'm going to see. That's so exciting, seeing the visual arts, and all of the amazing effects and characters that they're creating. I cannot wait to see it, because that's one of the most important elements in our story."

I saw her in 'The Town' yesterday, and she did a really great job. It's the first time I've actually seen her act and I was very impressed.

Everybody that doubts her go see The Town and shut the **** up already.

I think I'm gonna see The Town this weekend so we'll see. So is she really good? If so, I'll take back everything I said before about her. I'm starting to be more convinced, but I want to see her in this first.

It's a contrived character within the film, but Lively owns it easily. I was stunned by her performance. And just based on that performance alone, she won't be on Gossip Girl for too much longer.

She's got too much potential to stay on the small screen.

I'm sure this has already been posted but I think it'd be a good way to go..

I think Blake is a really good choice! This movie will rock!

I've seen better delivery from porn actresses. Really hope her overall performance is better than what we see in the trailer.

On Lively's 'performance' (we can't call two lines a performance but there we go)

I agree her first line sounded wooden. I don't get the criticism for her second line, sounds like typical trailer wisdom to me.

But we really have no context for her line delivery. In fact it seems like Hal is ignoring Carol in that scene, which prompt her to say "This is important" in that way to get the message across. In the trailer without the build up it comes across as forced.

Also, in Secret Origins, Carol was depicted as putting on a brave, tough demeanor even though she was actually very vulnerable due to her father's poor health. Now I have no idea if any of that is present in the film (but given other clear influences in the trailer it seems likely) but it would explain her forced toughness.

EDIT: Just watched the trailer again. Her first line is obviously three different lines cut together. No wonder it sounds off.

ohhhhhhh there is no way that i am that naive that i will think that there is only one bad line from here and it was in the trailer.

it is how it is.

Who was saying this? I just think that 'bad line' is poorly represented, and I have my suspicions that it isn't a line at all, but three spliced together.

sorry i quote when i try to talk a post above me.

this is just what i think about her. i didnt even read your post.

she will be bad in the movie.

Yeah, I really wasn't feeling her, like... at all, in the trailer. I got over Katie Holmes sucking up the air in Batman Begins. Hopefully Lively shows more chops in the movie than the trailer or that she won't be a dealbreaker for me in this one.

I was excited to see how she'd do in the role too, because she won over a lot of people in The Town and at SDCC. But she really fell flat in this footage.

We'll see...

Well now we have an actual clip of Blake Lively's performance, and as I guessed before, her line in the original trailer was spliced together from several different lines, which is why it sounded so unnatural. The people saying they've heard better delivery from "porn actresses" were too quick to judge the woman, as usual.
