JJ Abrams. Star Trek and LOST has shown he can do wonders with teams of multiple complex characters.

Peter Jackson.

He's great at balancing big casts.

He's incredibly faithful to source material.

He's not afraid to make old school, three hour long epics like this movie should be.

He's in charge of the best special effects house in the business.

He's just as adept at intimate, quiet, character building scenes as he is at big, balls-out action.
This film'll need both.
