Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

I don’t think we/people do complain much though. This show was a shock compared to the normal Sony show level. Horizon and GoW that released recently were amazing for me so I’ve not been complaining at all, except for not getting a show last year. With 2 of my faves now out of the picture for shows I really wanted Naughty Dog to be present (even if only to accelerate Factions out of the way) or for other studios to step up.

As for major acquisitions, I don’t think they are as important for PlayStation as it’s not like the games will be free in a game pass equivalent so not a whole lot changes. Boosting and building up other promising small studios the way they’ve done before (but not for more live service ****!) would be great to see though.

That recent article says that Sony is still in a shopping spree. I didn't know they recently purchased EMI Music and Crunchy Roll.

The main reason why I want them to purchase more is so they would have more offerings for the PlayStation that would appeal to me as a consumer. So far, I didn't/dont really feel that with the ps5 era. Firesprite, Housemarque, Haven, Bungie... Bluepoint is still a wait and see.

I'd like to see them hire more people for their game studios so they could speed up the production of their games, but that doesn't seem to be priority right now for them as far as I'm aware. So acquiring more studios is probably the neXt best thing.

I honestly think the biggest issue with the thing was presentation, not content. Nintendo Directs are able to make even the most lackluster of release schedules an interesting watch. (Never forget Nintendo Farming direct). This was for the most part, CG trailer after CG trailer after CG trailer. The big stuff, and some not that big stuff, can get more than a CG trailer, some narration on what to expect.

How many trailers needed a little explanation on what to expect in this show?

When it comes to major acquisitions of publishers that are already doing well like Capcom, I’m not sure a whole lot would change. For someone like Square though I think they could improve them a lot. I think the kind of studios they’ve bought have been fine, just don’t want them put on live service titles. Should be looking to get smaller studios who can make games like Plague Tale and as you say, invest more of that live service pot (which is already more than half the total budget and growing further) into adding staff to their big studios so they can work more efficiently like Insomniac and without crunch.

I think I mentioned the studio behind A Plague Tale before. Focus Entertainment? Based from the two Plague Tale games, they would be fitting for the PlayStation family.

This explains a lot.

They should be doing The Last of Us Part III imo, instead of this multiplayer. I won't be playing it.

Sounds like Factions was a huge waste of time and resources for one of the best studios. They need to course correct asap to focus on what they do best - this could eventually become the path to a Rocksteady SS situation otherwise.

The old E3 shows used to waste a lot of time with irrelevant interludes and needed to be trimmed down, but they’ve taken it a bit too far now. You can benefit from some structure still with some minimal talking to break things up and to give a bit more depth on some of the titles. It can be a bit of an exhausting format otherwise, even when the content is great.

Not enough gameplay in a lot of these ads too. Cinematic trailers are bull**** 90% of the time. Unless they're teasing a sequel to an established property, they are worthless.

Some of those games I still have no idea what they’ll be like. Seems misjudged in many of the cases.

Good for ND being brave enough to call out if what they r working on isn’t good
Full steam ahead on their new IP, and then TLOU3 and another Uncharted game would be my ideal scenario.

I think Uncharted is pretty much done, its been way too long. I can see The Last of Us Part III as the big finale for the Last of Us games, and the final big Sony game for the ps5 in 2027 or 2028.

The new IP is the most interesting. Naughty Dog's new IP in over a decade. I hope its different enough from the dread atmosphere/bleak/horror world of The Last of Us, and the adventure vibe of Uncharted. Its too bad though that Naughty Dog is splitting their time developing it with the Last of Us Multiplayer.

If they want to do new single player IPs fine, and I’ll be well up for them. TLOU is an amazing experience, but due to the bleakness, I would much more likely replay something like Uncharted many times. Uncharted and God of War were always my PS favourites (I’d add Horizon sequel and Spidey now), not only because they were amazing games, but they gave me something in 2 of my favourite (underpresented) genres. I was hoping they’d both continue forever. :O

Sony will release God of War games til the end of time.

Horizon, I wouldn't be surprised if its limited to a trilogy or quadrilogy.

Feels like SSM are very much committed to GoW, even if they take on other IPs too, which is great for me. Makes sense on Horizon. I love the exotic settings in that game so much and they are great for showing off cutting edge graphics.

I think Sony needs that “game” that will really give it this gen a spark and it should be a game that says “this is why u buy a ps5”

I feel like for last gen Uncharted 4 was that game it was a great game that sold consoles for them and I feel like it justified y u should buy a ps4 and it was a spark that led to hits like GOW, Horizon, LOU2, Ghosts, and Spidey

I fear they won't be any, since that game will eventually come to PC. And I don't think the general public really cares about their VR games.:ps:

That being said, sales wise, Ps5 is doing well and isn't far behind from the Ps4, if not maybe already ahead when Ps4 was still in its year 2.5.

These gens are so long nowadays that it feels likely. The silly thing is it doesn't seem like current games have got the most out of the current systems at all yet.
Especially when you take into consideration that 2.5 years into its lifespan there are only 12 PS5-exclusive games and almost half of this list haven't been released yet.

I know that massive companies like Sony are all about "upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, profits, profits, profits" but there's no need to rush new tech out there when PS5s have only recently begun to be more commonly found in stores two years after its launch.

There were some rumours of a later showcase this year. If not then hopefully they don't hold back next year and we hear what pretty much every studio is working on. I kind of want the first few GAAS games to bomb so hard that it forces a rethink to the strategy.

They still have the Last of Us Multiplayer announcement left for this year. I imagine any first party game aside from spidey 2/MLB 2024 would be announced neXt year.

Their 1st party game line up isn't terribly eXciting for neXt year especially if Marvel's Wolverine doesn't come out neXt year.

Factions yeah? Sounds like it’s getting delayed and many of the devs are being moved on to other projects. Probably even a chance it gets cancelled at this point. I think a problem that they’ve probably come across at this point after talking to Bungie is that it could be hard to monetise to the same extent as something like Fortnite where noone is going to accept a Mickey Mouse or luminous gun skin in a much more serious setting. Would have been better to include a scaled down multiplayer with TLOU2 like before.

I just want to hear comprehensive news on what all the studios working on single player games will be doing, even if that means waiting for next year, but ideally they bring at least some news within a show later this year.
