Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Factions yeah? Sounds like it’s getting delayed and many of the devs are being moved on to other projects. Probably even a chance it gets cancelled at this point. I think a problem that they’ve probably come across at this point after talking to Bungie is that it could be hard to monetise to the same extent as something like Fortnite where noone is going to accept a Mickey Mouse or luminous gun skin in a much more serious setting. Would have been better to include a scaled down multiplayer with TLOU2 like before.

I just want to hear comprehensive news on what all the studios working on single player games will be doing, even if that means waiting for next year, but ideally they bring at least some news within a show later this year.
I don't recall Sony doing a rundown of what their studios are doing as of the moment, especially during these State of Play presentations. They will appear when they have a footage ready.

The next likely thing we are going to get from their studios, in terms of project updates, is a post from their social media, like what Naughty Dog did recently.

I don’t mean an official rundown (although I would love that), just like with showcases of old where you get a bunch of trailers even for projects that are far out and then have a better idea of the pipeline. Many of the studios were outright missing this time and the new ones focusing on GAAS stuff that I won’t be playing aren’t making up for it

I suspect we won't get any anytime soon as a lot of their games, are either in deep production or early production. Team Asobi just became in its own Sony studio last year. Returnal and Gran Turismo 7 are still recent ps5 games and I don't think their respective studio will announce a new game anytime soon. Insomniac still has Wolverine and there could be DLCs for Spider-Man 2 for neXt year, so it would be a long time from now before they announce another game.

Bluepoint/Bend should be neXt in line though there are no reports that their game is near announcement stage. Does a MLB game announcement even count? since thats a yearly release.

New games from Sucker Punch, Santa Monica, Guerrilla is still years away, same with Naughty Dog's new ip especially they are splitting their time working on it with TLOU multiplayer.

They already announced their newest games/ips via Haven/Firewalk games (Ps' newest acquisitions) last month. So I don't eXpect anything from Sony until mid 2024 to announce a new game.

I was most excited for KOTOR this gen *sheds a single tear *

Can't believe such a legendary game was handed over to some incompetent port studio.

There's also London Studio and Media Molecule, there's a report that both are working in a new game, but thats about it. Media Molecule stopped supporting Dreams last September, so their new game must be in early stage.

London Studio confirmed last year that they are no longer working on a VR game but a fantasy co op online game set in London, which I'm going to pass. I'm assuming its also in early stages.

After 2024, should be jam packed though. I think aside from Wolverine, there's a 50% chance they could sneak in 1 more AAA game, especially if Jim Ryan sticks to their "2 or more big 1st party game per year" plan. But I doubt its gonna be a sequel of the ones we already played back in ps4.

It is disappointing but I have come to expect disappointment from the vast majority of studios and "AAA" games with massive day one patches, micro-transactions and baked in DLC that will ask you to buy it at a later date.

So if Rebirth and the extra Alan Wake and Spider-Man stuff including release dates for all had been at the Sony show, maybe it would have hit better. I don’t see the point of having Summer Game Fest and these so close together. At any rate I’d prefer all the exclusive stuff be limited to the Sony showcase and making that as good as possible.

Was Summer gaming fest better? I just watched trailers/videos from a couple of the games that presented in it.

No it was pretty bad aside from a few specific reveals. I expect SGF to be like that and not too great, but just wish it wasn't so long. Most of it is filler. My point above was that the Sony show might have come across better if they'd kept those for their own show and their own show surely is most important to them.

Yeah I also said before that it should have been their eXclusives. Though first look for games like Metal Gear and new footage for Mirage were highlights as well. I think it was too long. Sometimes less is more. Good for me, as I didn't also catch that live stream.

The one they did in 2020 or 2021 with the major reveals like Horizon Forbidden West was great. I watched that livestream live.

Most Sony shows are much better than this one was. After no show last year I was actually expecting it to be one of the best ones with some huge announcements for the future. I guess Covid delays are catching up with some of the studios and Jim’s GAAS love also got in the way. I kind of want the early Sony GAAS releases to utterly fail to force a rethink on having them take over.

I think they are just in the period in which their eXciting games are still far out so there's nothing much to show. WhIle the rest, the third party developers probably paid for their games to be shown in the last livestream turning into a lot of nothings.

If they do a livestream neXt year, featuring Marvel's Wolverine, Ghost of Tsushima Returns, Naughty Dog's new ip, Bend Studio's new ip, Asobo's new ip, Bluepoint's new ip and ps5 pro reveal in 1 hour. That would be great. I can see the gaming community buzzing and raving about it even if there are couple of live service games from Sony.

The live service games. I'm indifferent to them. They don't interest me. If they do well, I still won't likely play them. If they flop, it won't be a shocker to me. There are just there. I ignore them like their Vr games.

Yeah, I guess they’ve not been in an interim period like this before without enough material ready for 2 years in a row, with the extended dev cycles for AAA games now and then Covid also getting in the way. Next year’s show could be the one that hypes everyone through the roof!

I am late to the party but I added a Western Digital 1TB internal SSD to my PS5

Just played the Final Fantasy demo. Utterly jaw dropping. Playing this you get the sense how much Ragnarok was hampered by the PS4 target. Still a solid game, but.

I have a 2 tb one. Does wonders for the space. Just wish they allowed an external one or at least a second slot because as large as games get I don't think it's going to last more than a few years.

Im still old school...i only keep 2-3 games at once on the console and delete those i finished.
I dont know if im in the wrong here, but i feel like something has to change.

Like i pay 500 bucks for the Console and its adviced to buy a 100 bucks SSD? That cant be right.

This is all way too expensive for video gaming imo.
Games get too big and expensive.
