Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

I have to laugh.

I'm not satisfied with a lot of PlayStation's decisions for a few years. So a replacement could lead to more eXciting future for PlayStation.

VR, PC ports, a bunch of accessories I won't buy (because i don't need them), live service games aren't for me.

Honestly probably good news for PlayStation. I’m not a fan of his direction/vision.
Me neither. I think most of not all of his decisions has hurt the brand, but it hasn't really hurt sales and that's why he's been in the position for as long as he has. But if he stayed longer I think sales may have started hurting too.
Good news if true. Though I guess that depends on the replacement ha.
It's absolutely true. Jason Schreier is one of the most reliable sources in the industry. Although the tweet makes it look like the breakup is amicable, there could be more going on behind the scenes that they're not telling the public.
Yes!!!! So happy he will be gone! hopefully we can get someone younger and a person who really understands what the PS Fans want
Yeah, Sony really needs to stick someone up there whose young and is with the times. Someone who really understands the fan base, and the non-toxic side of it at that.

Are many of the PS execs well known? Many potentially good candidates? Herman Hulst?

I hope there is a chance for less extreme GAAS focus with new leadership. 60% of budget going to single player should be the minimum IMO (preferably 70%).

are there any new ips launched during the ps5 era so far, that became really popular? Is Returnal popular? I've read the pc port, didn't have good sales.

A lot of people seem to like it but it’s not on the level of popularity of the main Sony titles. Decent effort from smaller devs though. Just not really my type of game.

I wonder if Sony will still move forward with the game Firewalk Studios is making or if it’s going to be impacted since it’s only a GAAS which is what Jim Ryan was really pushing, there was a Forbes article that I read and it sounded like Sony may be going back to creating more single player/ story driven games and not release their GAAS properties at least I hope that is what the new leadership teams will do

PS5 ‘slim’ announced for launch in November, 30% smaller, 1TB storage, same price for disc version. 2 SKUs, disc drive addable to digital version.

If there's any truth to that it would be amazing news.

so...Sony has the nerve to not only raise the price of the Ps5 All Digital, but they're also selling the vertical stand separately?

They suck this generation. Creeping more and more into their seventh generation attitude

"A horizontal stand will be included with the new PS5 model." What you read was the second sentence: "Also a new Vertical Stand compatible with all PS5 models will be sold separately." And I think the prices are still the same as before unless they changed an international one.

I read both sentences, and the fact of the matter is you have to pay extra to be able to properly place your console vertically on a flat surface.

...no they are not, the OG Ps4 AD was $400. The price on the PS4 AD slim according to the blog post is $450.

They are selling an optional, different stand, not making you pay extra for one unless you already own a PS5 and want one of their new options.

They are selling an optional, different stand,
Exactly. They are selling it, instead of including it. If you buy a Ps5 slim and wish to sport it in a vertical state properly, then Sony is charging you for it.
not making you pay extra for one unless you already own a PS5 and want one of their new options.
What are you talking about? The only Ps5 anyone owns right now is the OG. If you have an OG Ps5, there is one universal stand that supports the console regardless of vertical or horizontal positioning and it is included in the box.

This blog post was about the Ps5 slim series. If you want a slim Ps5, you have to place it horizontally unless you want to pay more out of pocket to properly place it vertically.

I am surprised its already coming out neXt month. I guess thats the one I would be getting neXt year. I prefer a slimmer console. My ps1/4 are the slim version. Only my ps2 was the bigger version.

it's around the same time that Sony released the slim console for the past three generations; 3 years after the launch

The design does not look great especially if you get the disc version.

Though 30% less in volume and 18% lighter are big improvements. 1TB minimum from the OG's 825GB+ storage size.

I hope my local store has plenty of stock when I finally get this neXt summer. I hope this won't be hard to find during its few months because I plan to own a Ps5 by May or June, which is already less than a year from now. I still need the big PS5 games to be cheaper, thats why I'm not getting one right now.

Vertical stand: $29.99 (optional)
Disc edition: $499.99 (same price)
Digital edition: $449.99 (bump from $399.99)
Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive: $79.99 (optional)

I have calculated how this cost in my country and ps5s are being sold for $599.99 from where I live. Even the stores that lowered their prices are still above $499.99. Grrr.

I have to say this is the first time where the smaller 'slim' model did not go down in price but in fact went up (at least the digital model did). I just got a new PS5 a few months ago with a 2TB internal SSD add on so I have NO desire to 'upgrade'. I wonder if the fat models will be lower in price like on black friday. I know my brother would buy one if the price is right.

well you are also paying for the outer cover that covers the the drive itself ;)
