Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

What system or equipment do I need to start playing vr? I have ps5 and 4. Rather get something for the 4 side I’ll sure it’ll be cheaper, but I have no idea where to start
PS5? Since its the newer console. If you get PSVR1 for the PS5, you need an additional tool so it can work. While PSVR2 is only accessible for the PS5 if I'm not mistaken.

If anything is going to dethrone the PS2, it makes sense that it'd be the Switch. Apart from the novelty of it being both a handheld and home console, the sheer amount of games from every generation of Nintendo consoles available to play on it is incredibly appealing for gamers and casuals alike.
I didn't even know you could do that. I'll for sure get the next Switch. It'll probably be called Switch 2 but I hope they called it the Superswitch!

Yeah, the Switch Online is a paid membership subscription but it comes with a decent selection of games fom NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy and Genesis as well. I'm sure they're going to expand with Gamecube and Wii games down the line apart from what's already available (Skyward Sword HD, Metroid Prime Remastered, Mario Sunshine & Galaxy in the Mario 3D All Stars Collection to name a few).

Switch Online, is it the equivalent of Xbox live and Psplus? so by paying for it you get to play multiplayer games online and also get access to the legacy catalogue?

Correct. There's 2 different memberships Online and Online + Expansion Pack. Both have multiplayer and cloud storage. The only difference is the normal Online has access to NES, SNES, Game Boy and Game Gear games while Expansion Pack has everthing Online has as well access to GBA, N64 games and expansion stuff for Animal Crossing and Mario Kart 8.

@Venom 1988 put it best because I actually forgot that there was a cheaper basic Switch Online package that doesn't include add-ons like the N64 games.

The following PS5 console exclusives are scheduled for 2024 thus far:

Helldivers 2
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Foamstars
Rise of the Ronin
Stellar Blade

I'm not interested in any of those.

I’m definitely interested in Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin and HUGELY up for Rebirth.

Will be interesting to see how the first couple of live service projects go. I kind of want them to fail to kill off this excessive live service push.

This is a weak year in terms of exclusives for Sony no real heavy hitters outside of FF

Sony needs to have something big this year I really hope they announce something big this year

Man where are the games. Bought this system just to have to spend time catching up on ps4 games. What a disappointment this system has been.

Are Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade lifetime exclusives or timed?

If you bought the PS5, to catch up on PS4 games, well in my opinion, there's plenty to catch up with (assuming you don't play using X-BoX One and PC).

Though personally speaking, I used the PS4 games to catch up on PS4/3 games, plus bought PS2 games that were ported in the PS4. In total, i have about 90 games in my PS4 library. I'm still waiting for Red Dead Redemption 1 to go on sale and might use it for the PS4 later on.

I plan to buy the PS5 in the summer and so far, I only have 11 games (2022 to early 2024) to catch up with. And its really not a lot. 13 if I add Hitman 3 (which i already bought its ps5 version) and the Astro free game. I have already finished Guardians and Miles Morales in the PS4, and bought RE Village since they were available for the PS4 anyway.

I hope the neXt Assassin's Creed game comes out later this year and GTA VI in early 2025. A lot of the big Sony first party games are still years away.

I hope we at least get a good roadmap of what the big first party studios are working on in summer, even if those games aren't ready for a while.

No I bought the ps5 to play ps5 games but there’s nothing to play, so I had to dust off my ps4 and play the rest of their library.

Well that sucks.

Anyway, I went yesterday to my local store and Ps5 slim is still not available. The price for Ragnarok and Forbidden West have dropped by $10 (now $60) and its still eXpensive for me. I'm now thinking whether to wait till the end of 2024 instead of summer 2024, to get a ps5. Cheaper PS5 games like A Plague Tale Requiem and Gotham Knights probably won't take me a month to finish.

Sony recently released a 2024 games trailer and Silent Hill 2 / Metal Gear Solid 3 are included, so those might entice you. I'm pretty sure Silent Hill 2 would be released before Q4.

Did you want a PS5 Pro? Or trying to save money? I forgot about SH2 and MGS3. Are they expected to be timed or permanent console exclusives?

I don't need a more powerful PS5, so I don't plan to get a PS5 Pro. The one I plan to buy in the summer, is the slim version since its smaller in physical size, and has a bigger storage space (1TB).

I could have bought the original model (last month) since it was much cheaper (450 American dollars) but it didn't seem like a good idea in the long run since I was already aware about the slim version (and its bigger storage size).

I think SH2/MSG3 are console eXclusives ? But I'm not really sure.

Oh right, Slim sounds good then yeah.

Ok, maybe we’ll hear more at a summer show.

last gen I sold my Ps4 for the pro and I was annoyed that I had to do it. but this time around I don't know if I'm gonna do that. I think I can ride out the next of the gen with the Ps5 and then finally switch to Xbox because of the dying ship that playstation is will be.

What’s the reason you didn’t like upgrading from PS4 to Pro? Unnecessary hassle?

I didn't like the concept of having a mid generational refresh of a console. but I upgraded because I have always been of the mindset that I want to playstation games on the best possible console hardware available, which means I had to get the pro to fulfill my desire

Sony ecosystem (2023): 123 million monthly

Microsoft ecosystem (includes consoles, Windows, and mobile apps) (2022): 120 million monthly users

Valve ecosystem (includes Windows/Linux) (2021): 132 million monthly users

Sony (PlayStation) and Valve (Steam) are my preferred platforms, though occasionally I'll buy/download something on Apple (iOS) or Google (Android) to play. I have an Xbox account on PC but don't really do anything with it. As for Nintendo/Switch, I play with friends and family that have that but personally I don't.
