Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Oh just saw that 499 is not yet official for XSX. So I guess both companiesare still playing chicken.

That being said, Sony should probably just priced the discless ps5 at 299. The gp won't care about specs unless it doesn't break/compromise the game. However Thats going to be a super generous price for a new console assuming the discless ps5 has the same power as the one with the disc version and I bet it is. I just see Sony scratching their heads right now about going cheap with the discless version.

I agree. Like I said the general public will see the price of next gen consoles before they care about anything else. As for the bolded, that is not something to assume, it's a fact. Ps5 AD is the same console as the regular Ps5. You just can't put discs in it.

Yeah so I think the pricing of the Series S is probably giving Sony a headache IF they were eyeing on 399 for the discless. So they might as wellgo low with the disc drive to completely outsell the Series X. No one is really going to buy a 499 console when they they could get a 299 console unless that person needs a disc drive to play games but even that, sounds discouraging for the costumer.

Personally, I need a 4k player as my new pc doesn't even have a disc drive (which is weird saying that) and I prefer to get the big games on physical.

I need a 4K blu ray player too and I was disappointed that the Ps4 pro didn't have it. Also I would never go with an all digital console if the disc option still existed. Not that I have an issue with going digital, it's very convenient, but I just don't want to go 100% digital which I would to be stuck with if I had the Ps5 AD.

Having the disc version gives you that option. You can have the disc version and still go all digital if you wanted to. As a Youtuber once said, it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I seriously don't know how well the Ps5 AD will sell at $400 with the Series S being $300. As high of a demand that there is for playstation over xbox, time and time again we have seen that price is the most important thing to customers upfront

Yeah. But Microsoft selling one of their new consoles at 299 is good news as I don't see how Sony would dare to price both versions of ps5, at 399/499 respectively especially considering the pandemic and the launch price of both ps3/ps4 were such a big deal. You gotta make me people with the price or else they'd jump ship. I'm hoping Sony doesn't let us down especially when its already taking them forever to announce a price. They can't let Xbox have this pricing advantage.

I don't have plansto get a Xboxbut 299 for a neXt gen console sounds tempting.

the thing is, if mS hadn't announced $300 as the price for the Series S, then I would have said $400/$500 would be a good price point for the Ps5 AD/Ps5 respectively. But since mS has gone so aggressive with their budget option pricing, it puts Sony in a tough position, in my opinion.

They could be complacent with the hype, and take a roll of the dice with $400/$500 pricing. For me personally I think that is a mistake. I really feel like Sony should also go for the loss even if it hurts them at the start, and do $300/$400. Honestly I find it extremely unlikely (but then again, no one really predicted the Ps5 AD in the first place...) but if they do with it, they'll also have to immediately discontinue the Ps4 pro. I don't think that thing ever dropped in price and it's always retailed for $400.

Sony should just go ahead with 300/400. It will save me money (these consoles are more expensive from where I live btw) and if they could go from ps3's 599 (the 50gb iirc) to ps4's 399 (500 gb). Having the price launch of the ps5 similar to price launch of ps4/ps4 pro shouldn't be a problem especially given how successful ps4 is. We will have to deal with games increasing their launch price to 70. And Sony/Microsoft not increasing the prize of their new console should balance things out. Xbox is very generous with this 299 price. So Sony should be too, if they want to keep their lead.

Also I'm a playstation guy from the very start and I only played few games on pc and mobile. Xbox was never in my radar until now (only because I got more time reading about these things unlike in the last two decades) And I mainly don't want to see Xbox succeed because they might get better games eventually or eXclusive content from third party companies and I really don't want to get a Xbox.

I agree that Sony should do that I just don't know if they would do that. They can't wait much longer without announcing the damn prices though so we will probably find out soon.

I doubt Sony will be able to undercut the $300 Series S with a cheaper PS5 Digital.

So, it comes down to the price for the main consoles, and it will be interesting if Sony tries to undercut the $500 Series X (if true) by $50 with a $450 Disc PS5. Of course, if Sony comes in with a $400 Disc PS5, that would be shocking! And vice versa if MS surprises with a $400 Series X.

Sony may not be as deep in the green as mS, but they can go for a $300 Ps5 AD if they wanted to be aggressive and not take any chances in being complacent.

The lower the price is, the better. You gotta give people more reason to buy a new console in the state of the world right now.

Hopefully Sony announces their price/launch date this week or neXt week with 299/399 price tag. Microsoft would probably be tempted to sell Series X in a lower price as well. The winnner, us customers.

agreed.

A $400 Series X would be very tempting to me. Especially when you factor in one machine that has BC across 3 prior gens.

And in this environment now, that $300 Series S, coupled with Game Pass, is going to be VERY HARD to beat, value wise, for a casual gamer who wants to go all digital and can't afford to upgrade to the latest and greatest 4K tv.

Also, MS has their All Access financing option, where you pay $25 (for Series S) or $35 (Series X) per month to pay off the console. And it looks like they will be pushing that, especially in this environment.

I'm just ready to see if Sony is saving the best for their next PlayStation 5 livestream

-299 all digital
-399 with disk drive/4k blu ray disc
-release date
-more eXclusives like God of War
-release dates for their games like Miles Morales, Kena, GodFall, Demons Soul, Ratchet, Gran Turismo

And they would probably bundle this with some kind of ps now/ps plus deal as they ve been promoting those two on facebook lately with the sale.

I think in terms of games and buzz, Sony has the upper hand right now and they just need these consoles to be more affordable than the new Xboxes to completely seal the deal! Greatness awaits!

When is this Sony event?

as posted by @geetard in the Xbox thread.

Series X confirmed to be $499. Release date Nov 10. Preorders open Sept. 22.

Also, EA Play is coming to Game Pass Ultimate at no extra cost.

Now, the ball is in Sony's court. Will they match or undercut that $500 price for the Series X?

I'm thinking they'll match or undercut. They definitely won't go over though.

I'm ready to pre order this baby. My local gamestop is literally 3 minutes from me, so I'm gonna put $200 down on this baby and pay monthly until launch.
