Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

as posted by @geetard in the Xbox thread.

Series X confirmed to be $499. Release date Nov 10. Preorders open Sept. 22.

Also, EA Play is coming to Game Pass Ultimate at no extra cost.

Now, the ball is in Sony's court. Will they match or undercut that $500 price for the Series X?
they should undercut, but they're probably gonna match. $400/$500 Ps5

Kinda shocked that MS is going with a $500 console again, but I guess they are hoping the much cheaper Series S to sell well with the more casual crowd.

Sony should announce something soon.

yeah, they're gonna have to announce something soon. now that mS has said their piece Sony needs do the same. preorders will probably start soon.

Guessing no price today?

if they announced the price today they'd be stealing mS's thunder. they only officially announced Series X's price hours ago lol

well, for max effect, if they had a $400 Disc PS5, they SHOULD announce it today to steal the Series X thunder.
it's already past 2pm where I am and I haven't heard anything about it so I doubt it is going to happen

btw yes they absolutely do need to go with a $400 Ps5

I'll say it again. Here is to hoping...$300 Ps5 AD and $400 Ps5. Go for the jugular, Sony

Aside from this late price/launch date announcement, I feel like Sony has always been one step ahead of Microsoft when it comes to their upcoming console. The live streams, the games, the buzz and ps3's launch price was such a blunder, I don't see why they would risk themselves again falling into that trap This is their fifth generation, the ps4 doubled the sales of Xbox One, we are in a pandemic, just make this more affordable than the new Xboxes. Its goingto matter in the long run. they just cannot give the Series S and X an edge, because they couldn't undercut their competition this time around when they clearly did that with the ps4 and with great results.

I’m predicting it will be more than the Xbox but probably not by a whole lot more.

I would guess that they will match the Series X at $500 on the disk version and probably $400 on the diskless version. They might lose some money on the diskless consoles but they will be getting a larger cut from the digital games since people can only buy the games from Sony.

The Ps5 will be weaker spec wise than Series X. Unless Sony is in a dire financial situation (which I don't they should be, at least not anywhere as bad as last gen), the only way I would see them making Ps5 more expensive than Series X is if they go arrogant again (which was also what they were last gen).

Honestly I could see Sony rolling the dice and making the Ps5s $400/$500 but I believe it is in their best interest - in the long run like you said - to make them $300/$400

Imagine if it's $400. Sony will have gone for the throat once again.
Sure, but Sony will be taking a loss again like the PS4. I mean, all consoles sell at a loss on launch, except maybe Nintendo.

The Series S at 300 will be a bigger loss than the Series X for MS.

Ps4 sold more than 100 million copies.... if that was not worth taking the loss.

Then I guess more people would just have to wait for the slim version or wait til the console is $100 cheaper.

I wonder if Sony will include EA Play with PS Now Or a similar gaming service since Xbox Game Pass includes EA Play

Does anybody know how in store pre orders at best buy work? I got the 360 from there, but didn't pre order and that was 15 years ago. I'm still thinking on doing gamestop, but if I do Best Buy, can I put a small amount down and pay the rest at launch? Gamestop does that, and as i said theres one right near my house. I'm just worried that with all the closings, one of them near me will be next before November.

I really have no idea how reliable this is, but according to it, Ps5 was gonna be a lot more expensive (which is fxcking stupid if it's true) but now are gonna change the price in response to Series X/S's prices.

The last time I preordered from them which was 6 years ago, I think I had to pay for the whole thing upfront. I would recommend Best Buy over Gamestop though I really hate dealing with them and I never buy games from there anyway.
