Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

So media outlets are starting to get the xbox in to give hands on impressions about the system now. So I would think ps5 is not too far behind then. So I expect to start getting some impressions either by end of next week or week after that.

The next two months are going to be interesting. I never really paid attention to previous console launches so this is new to me.

That generations stuff I thought was a reference to BC so it’s annoying it didn’t end up amounting to anything beyond PS4, although it does sound like the extent of PS4 coverage is much better than I expected. I think part of the reason for avoiding BC, even if it were more straightforward to make happen, is that it means they can sell the games digitally instead.
Ps2/3 games are available in Psnow. Though ps1 games aren't. Not sure whats accessible through ps store and ps plus though I'm assuming they have the new games. These three digital services are all confusing to me and now there's Ps Plus Collection for ps4 games. I wish Sony would streamline things and Just stick to 1.

Aside from their selling them in digital only. I do think they are phasing out the older games especially the obscure ones, so they could do remakes and remasters of the well known titles.

For ps games that aren't accessible to ps4/5, I want these titles to resurface either through a remaster or a full remake
-Grand Theft Auto III/Vice City/San Andreas (available digitally but I want a disc version and a remastered version)
-Grand Theft Auto IV
-Assassins Creed 1
-Red Dead Redemption
-Mass Effect trilogy
-X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance
-Splinter Cell games
-Prince of Persia games (the remake looks horrid, but I'm planning to buy it, just to experience a Prince of Persia game)
-Metal Gear Solid 1 to 4 as I've just posted earlier
-God of War 1/2

Assassin's Creed 1 could definitely do with a remake. The jump between that game and AC2 is big. It would feel clunky going back to it.

Yeah I just want everything in one place. My main nostalgia is for PS1. I still gamed during the PS2 but it was an age where I had many more distractions and before I really settled back into gaming as an older gamer.

The PS1 era was my favourite in terms of new groundbreaking games coming out in all different genres every few weeks, and with a more adult tone compared to the Sega vs Nintendo battle that had been the story prior to that.

I would prefer an entirely new Ac game as I feel like if Ubisoft remakes the first game and it does well (it probably will), then the Ezio trilogy would be neXt. These remakes take time. I just prefer if they move the story forward and visit countries that weren't fully featuredin the previous games. So for that, I prefer a remaster which they should have released during the first game's 10th anniversary.

As for ps1/2, its weird, those are my first two consoles but a lot of the big games during that time are mostly racing/platforming/fighting and fps. There aren't a lot of games from those eras I would check out now. Unlike in the ps3 era, I didn't even have a ps3, but I already have a lot of big ps3 games in the ps4.

I’d definitely prefer the focus to be on ambitious new games if they are having to split resources and it slows them down a lot. But if I get remakes and remasters I’ll still play them all lol.

It was amazing for all those genres you mentioned, but it’s also when the likes of the original Tomb Raider and Resident Evil came out, not to mention the best Final Fantasy games. What an awesome time in gaming!

Yeah. I feel like the PS1 era was particularly special to me.

As someone who grew up with Nintendo and Sega as a kid, by the time PS1 released, I was entering my teen years. And games on the PS1 felt like they were "growing up" along with me in ways that Nintendo and Sega couldn't capture (especially Nintendo).

Some of my fondest gaming memories happened during the PS1 era. Final Fantasy VII. Metal Gear Solid. Castlevania Symphony of the Night. And many more. Those just weren't games that I played. They were experiences that made everlasting memories and impressions on me.

When my parents let me have my 1st credit card, the 1st purchase I made was Guilty Gear on PS1 at my local Electronic Boutiques (not Gamestop). I still remember the guy at EB commenting that I was now officially in debt with my 1st credit card purchase.....haha.

And speaking of EB, I still remember going to EB at both my local mall and at a bigger mall in a nearby city to purchase many a PS1 game. Some of those trips and purchases still feel like yesterday. :(

So, yeah, the PS1 era was especially memorable to me and it's probably the reason why I've been a Playstation guy ever since. Even if I own other consoles, since the PS1 days, the current Playstation always seems to become my main, go-to console.

Which is why it just makes more sense for me to go with PS5 next gen instead of Xbox. When I look back on my gaming history, I just don't have that same nostalgic connection to the Xbox brand or Xbox franchises like Halo and Gears.

Well, hopefully they will release more remasters and collections of the classic games so that current gen players can experience them without having to own or hunt down retro consoles.

Clearly, they should recognize the demand and desire for these older titles. And releasing them again as remasters and collections just means more opportunities to make $$$$.

Resident Evil is part of my childhood and the one from that era that stuck with me through different ps generations. Tomb Raider is one of the few ips from the ps1 era, that I see myself playing. While Final Fantasy doesn't appeal to me. Other than those two, I can't name other ips from ps1 I would like to play or see continue with new games. With ps2 there are more - Gta, Shadow of the Colossus, those X-Men games, Metal Gear Solid, Hitman and God of War but still not a lot.

I look at Wikipedia's list of highest selling ps titles (i don't know how accurate those lists are) but out of the 4 gens, the highest selling games for ps1/2 are the least interesting group of games to me. Even if they are rereleased today with better graphics, I don't think I would buy most of them. Ps3 onwards are just more action-adventure oriented (well the populR ones) so those games what really appealto me.

Though I would like to play Pepsi Man and some Disney platformers again.

I don't know how accurate the rumours are but I believe the reports we are getting a Metal Gear Solid remake for the ps5 and remasters for the othergames. I hope they look dope and much better than Phantom Pain.

I saw that rumor. hope it's true.

I also kind of wish we can get a gow1 and gow2 remastered kind of like what they’ve done with from demon souls shadow of the colossus and the Prince of Persia game
I never played God of war 1 and I didn't finish God of War 2 due to a glitch. So they should have remastered both before along with God of War III.

And those three games you mentioned weren't remastered. They were remade.

Just a heads up. Looks like Gamestop will have another wave of PS5 preorders tomorrow, Friday 9/25/20.

Yeah, those would be a priority for me if they got released.

Waiting at GameStop right now.

Thanks. My GameStop says their only doing 8 preorders and I’m 5th in line. My first time doing anything like this.

Wow. If you had been just a bit later you would be stuffed.

Yeah I feel hella lucky. Now after I buy the PS5 I’m going to cancel my SM: Miles Morales PS4 version and get the ultimate edition that comes with the remastered Marvel’s Spider-Man. So I’m pretty excited. Pretty much I’m like why the hell not. I might as well go all the way.

Yep, sounds good. So did you get the PS5 yet or still queuing up?

They don’t open till 12 in Cali so still a couple of hours left.

I got the 5!!! Also I just switched to the standard ps5 version of Miles Morales. I could of kept the PS4 version and upgraded but I didn’t care really.
