Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Anyone who buys a PS5 from a scalper is an absolute moron.
I wouldn't say that. I do think some are willing to pay double, as long as they could use it now rather than later, especially with stocks being limited.

I'm hoping (well not really) that Sony miraculously has more stock for this year early 2021 (which is just 2 weeks from now). The eXcitement/buzz for getting a ps5/new console
is still hot and I think we are only gonna see it in retail stores (displayed and ready to be bought anytime without pre ordering) when the buzz finally passed. Who knows maybe the vaccine would take away the attention from these consoles.

Do you guys think interest for the PS5 would still be as high if the launch title lineup wasn't as strong?

What's the big rush, though? What could possibly be so urgent, that you'd be willing to pay double the price to some scumbag who's scamming you to your face?

They probably want it while its new and they have money to splurge especially in this pandemic in which they could be stuck in home to avoid catching the virus and activities like going to the cinema, concert, sports show, other countries for leisure are impossible at the moment. This could be comfort and luXury for them. Who knows. As long as Sony does something like keep up with the demand and make it possible for the ps5 to be available everywhere like the ps4/vita/psvr, then its more likely that people wouldn't resort to buying from scalpers. But then until that happens, people have this option to go online and buy from scalpers and resellers.

Personally speaking, I'm not going to buy from a scalper. No warranty, its an online transaction and I probably would just spend the other $499 to games I haven't picked up yet.

FOMO - fear of missing out

Its a psychological imperative in our consumer society, and companies and scalpers exploit it for increased profits. Its what causes people to take a week off of work so they can camp outside a store for the newest electronic device that they want or buy a $100+ special edition of a game so they can play it 2 days early, or in this case pay $1000 or more for the latest console.

Any one play the pathless yet? My physical copy came today it was out day 1 of ps5 digitally but Physical version just came out.

This is true.

And as long as there are enough people willing (or foolish) enough to pay scalpers 2-3x the retail price of an item due to FOMO, then these scalpers will continue to scalp these products if they see there's a viable market to sell to.

Unfortunately, you can't really do much about that. You can't control or regulate human behavior like FOMO. The only way these scalpers will stop is if people stop buying from them.

What can and should be regulated is the use of these "bots" on these retailer sites. I don't know the solution, but clearly something has to be done about these bots that are snapping up all the supply in seconds. IDK. Maybe some kind of extra step that you have to go through to "prove" you are a human and not a bot.

$500 is more than enough to pay for a PS5. How anyone is so desperate and impatient to pay 2-3 times that is just fueling this problem. The bots definitely need reigned in but as long as there is a market there will be bots.

I am wondering, what can be done to avoid the bots next time they make a shipment in March? I really would like one

Got the pathless yesterday just started playing it a little today only about 50 minutes in but its going to be a good game I can tell. Love the music already and some cool puzzles and just fun.

Like I said sell it physically. Like Walmart said, these bots just keep upgrading. Even if some sites make security upgrades, some of these bots would still find a way.

I just went to my local retail store yesterday and its just so odd, they have posters/those fancy stand displays for the ps5.... but you can't get the console there. Also, all the new ps5 games are in their window display ready to be bought anytime, but like I said, you can't get a ps5 right there in the store so why even consider buying a ps5 game. And why even bother promoting something people can't easily get. Then I asked the lady there, if this happened to ps4/switch, it didn't and I heard that phrase again "its because of the pandemic".

The pandemic is most likely playing a major role in how the retailers are choosing to sell these new consoles (online only vs physical store). There are trying to minimize mass crowds at their stores as much as possible. The last thing they want is to stock a hot item of limited supply which is guaranteed to draw large numbers of people to their stores all at once.

If this were a normal launch without the pandemic, then you'd probably see more consoles on shelves at the stores. They would still be hard to find, which would be normal, but you'd have a better chance of getting one off the shelf in stores.

Even before the launch of the new consoles, finding the older consoles (PS4, X1, Switch) in stock on store shelves was getting hard.

The pandemic really has changed the typical retail shopping experience.

I literally have never even seen it in stores. I’m so sad, I would love to at least feel what the controller feels like

Online shopping is more in demand in these times. However, I can still buy everything I want from physical stores eXcept for the ps5. Like I said before, I got pre order rewards/codes for Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion just walking in the store, buying the game and not doing any pre ordering. They have plenty of stocks for those. And I looked at the ps5 physical games there and they have plenty of stock as well.

Imo, this partly because of Sony doesn't have enough stock and not Covid safett procedures for the console not to be sold physically
. There's also no new pre order slots since last month. I'm just baffled why they keep plastering posters/stand displays when there's zero stock forthe ps5 (online or physical store). Even on YouTube, I just saw an ad for it.

Oh, I'm sure it is partly due to Sony and MS not making enough supply available. But a big part is Covid related. And games are very different than consoles, so it's kind of hard to draw any conclusion from the availability of games vs consoles.

In normal times, during any console launch period, the new consoles are usually very hard to find in stock on store shelves anyways (and hard to find online). You might get lucky and find one in store or online. But you'd have to be very patient and persistent.

I think back to the Switch in 2017. For the first several months, I found it almost impossible to find one on a store shelf or available online. It wasn't until the Summer months I believe when I finally saw a few in stock at my local Best Buy and that's when I got one. As the year went on, you started to see more Switch consoles readily available on store shelves.

And that was the same way with the launch of the PS4 and X1.

The same will be the case for the PS5 and Series X. In time, stock will be more readily available. However, again, due to Covid, when that happens might get pushed back further.

So, normally, I would have thought by around March 2021, it might start getting easier to find a new console. But now, I wouldn't be surprised if that gets pushed back to Summer 2021.

I hope not, for the sake of those of you who have not had the chance to get a new console.

I think they (including Microsoft since they have no new 1st party game rn for their new console) could have delayed this to neXt year. Switch never sold out from where I live when it was new well in the retail store I go to. And like I said before, people here don't really buy new consoles very early (I know some people who are waiting til its cheaper or until the slim version is released) so I was thinking before maybe there won't be a shortage here.

The good things I can think of are games like Miles Morales could be much cheaper when i can get the ps5; and software problems during its first few months could be fiXed by then. But then I'm playing not so old ps4 games (these last few months, all supporting hdr, I think I'm going to buy Ghost of Tsushima neXt after I finished Fallen Older) that could benefit the faster loading/ray tracing. I still feel I'm missing out by not getting this early (I was so excited when this announced last year) especially I'm already seeing the ps5 games in person though I know there's plenty of eXperiencing this feeling right now.

Anyone having issues with their dual sense controllers read that a few users have had issues with the triggers jamming

Just completed Demon's Souls! And for that game alone, I feel it was worth it to get a PS5 at launch.

When I saw the reveal trailer back in the Summer, I never in my wildest dreams thought I would beat that game by year's end, since Souls game were never really my type of game. And yet, here I am, and it is now one of my favorite games ever.

So, thank you PS5 for giving me this gaming experience!

I'm now thinking of getting it, maybe mid 2021. Right now i just lost interest and will just catch up to ps4 games I haven't bought yet. There's also not a lot of new games in the first SiX months of 2021 that I'm interested. I more interested in getting that vaccine in 2021 (though that will depend on my government and Pfizer).

And all of them bought up by bots before a real human can even attempt to buy one.

I think whats more frustrating is I don't think Sony have addressed anything about this scalper situation and make sure that genuine buyers/players would get it. So which really proves me my thinking of as long as they are outsold, they don't care whose getting it.

So if this somehow affects the long term health of the console, then I hope they blame themselves for such a messy launch. Not everyone is going to wait for the ps5 especially if things start to comeback normally in 2022 or 2023. Who knows whats the must have in those years. Switch 2?

Also I find it odd, they plan to ship 16 to 18 million consoles this year, but only managed to ship 3.4 million in 2020 especially the ps5 was announced way back in 2019. Yes, its covid related but unless they only started manufacturing these consoles 1 or 2 months before its launch date then okay but why would they manufacture the consoles so close to the launch date. Their inability to keep up with the demand is just frustrating, especially they announced the console like 11 months before the launch date.

I no I am like a day late being that today is the second but how many ps5 games did you have to start 2021 counting astro bots? I am at 7. Spiderman mm, spiderman remaster, astro bots, watch dog legions, sackboy, immortals gods among us, the pathless. I have beaten astro bots, spiderman mm, spiderman remaster so far. I am pretty far on the pathless. I have not played a lot of sackboy or watch dogs and played a little of immortals but not to much yet. Really hoping we get a ratchet and clank rift apart release date soon.
