Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Spider-Man 2018 iirc sold the most copies out of the former ps4 eXclusives.

Anyway we need more of those games, Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted, Horizon, God of War, Spider-Man, Last of Us, Days Gone, Shadow of the Colossus - not eXactly the same genre, but at least in third person. Returnal/Demons Soul despite being in 3rd person don't appeal to me, and I dont see myself spending a dime on fps/racing/sports games.

That is one of the problems with Sony, though. If you want photorealistic 3rd person action-adventure games, they've got you covered more than well enough. . . but if you want anything else? Slim pickings.

The first game has sold 20M copies, the second somewhere north of 10M. Its *absolutely* a hugely successful series. It just doesn't get the sam Reply e limelight because of terrible fortune in release windows ( both games managed to release at right about the same time as a once-per-generation masterpiece in the open world game field ).
True, they better avoid that next time out! I thought the first game was fine but the second a step up.

They got variety. There's still plenty of Sony games I haven't played, that just don't interest me.

-Gravity Rush
-Ratchet & Clank (I played the reboot, only because it was free)
-MLB
-Gran Turismo
-Returnal
-Demon's Souls
-Bloodborne
-Killzone
-Knack
-Little BigPlanet
-Concrete Genie
-Until Dawn (though not a 1st party game)
-a bunch of psvr games

I always see half of those when I'm game hunting but I just don't want to buy/play them.

I checked their ps5 catalogue, only siX are in my waitlist.
-Spider-Man: Miles Morales
-Spider-Man 2
-Wolverine
-God of War: Ragnarök
-Horizon Forbidden West
-Death Stranding 2 (not 1st party)

I'm not gonna double dip for Uncharted remaster and The Last of Us Part 1 as I already played the ps4 version before. So for the rest of the ps5 gen, I'd like to see like ten more added in my list but I doubt it. I think from 2025 til the launch of ps6, I would add Ghost of Tsushima 2, Last of Us Part 3, Horizon 3, Spider-Man 3, God of War 6 and I'm assuming a 3rd person action-adventure game (newip) from Bend Studio, Bluepoint and Naughty Dog.

Sadly, I kind of expect that Sony will manage to release "Horizon To The Stars" or whatever they call Horizon 3, a week or two before GTA6 comes out.

Re: Demons Souls and Bloodborne, Demons Souls is *not* a Sony game. The IP is owned by FromSoft, as indicated by that the game was distributed by different publishers in different regions. Bloodborne, things are vaguer, I haven't been able to determine clearly whether Sony actually owns the IP, or if they just have one of those maddeningly written exclusivity contracts they seem to love.

If they do that then the game certainly won’t be going to the stars. :D :csad: Seriously would be unforgivable to muck the date up a 3rd time in a row lol, give the game a chance for once!

Demons Souls remake was made by Bluepoint Games which turned out to be a Ps eXclusive and the company was later acquired by Sony. They even have Demons soul in their banner along with other Ps game characters.

Hope it is good enough to create a new IP for them and not just standard FPS shooter. I still think Bluepoint or other newly acquired studios should try to create a Remastered Resistance and Killzone
Bluepoint is rumored to be working on a new ip, so as Bend Studio and Naughty Dog.

I kind of wonder whether its actually bad luck, or if its some kind of active arrogance and/or contempt inside Sony, either for the competition or for the Horizon games themselves. Like, do they just not consider competition as a possible factor, because they are Sony and so invincible? Do they consider Horizon the red headed stepchild franchise and so whenever Sony has to pick a game to take it in the teeth from a bad release window, its always as front of the line?

Nonetheless, unless Sony actually bought the IP from Fromsoft, its still not a Sony game. Its a game where they bought the rights to pay for making a remake. And given how reluctant pretty much every company is to actually part with IP, I'm gonna need more than a marketing banner as evidence that From sold the IP to Sony, not when they *definitely* owned it in the first place.

Even if there had been arrogance in the past, that would surely have been cured by the effects that those bigger titles had on Horizon. If it's any kind of contempt for the Horizon series itself where they aren't too bothered about throwing it to the wolves I'd be very disappointed as there's a lot of potential here IMO and the studio have put in a ton of effort. Arrogance when it comes to their biggest titles like GoW and TLOU I guess could be there as those really are juggernauts for single player games. If we get a third game I really hope they give Horizon a great chance this time.

That's like saying Spider-Man 2018, Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2023 aren't Sony games.

So the upcoming James Bond game isn't an IO Interactive game? Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora isn't an Ubisoft game?

Yeah, I can't see Sony making a new handheld anytime soon. They are all in hardcore on "Only AAA Matters", they aren't going to reverse course until something like "The PS5 fizzles" happens.

Maybe those new studios they’re working with like Haven, Deviation and Firewalk will make smaller games. Either way can’t see them going back to a handheld anytime soon after dumping Vita not so long ago.

Also PSVR2 is struggling and their recent PC ports (Horizon, Returnals and TLOU) aren't overnight successes.

With their PS5 eXclusives (or console eXclusives) being limited in this generation, I'd like to see Sony focus more on making more eXclusives for the Ps5. Its weird because 4 to 5 years ago, when we think of the ps4, their great eXclusives that we usually said first for its success. This generation, I couldn't even say that anymore. MLB is also now available in every current console.

Plus factor in the Activision / Microsoft deal which despite all the hurdles, is finally getting approvals for a couple of governments, Sony should be more competitive.

It's a balancing act as there's a lot of money to be made if their games take off on pc, and those games would still be console exclusive. They need to sort out the ports and not rush them. Everyone in VR needs to work together IMO. Even though I'm very interested in it I don't want to spend a fortune to get one setup and still miss out on a ton of games (def wouldn't get 2 setups). Exclusivity strategies work better when the new tech is already in most homes and enough revenue to be divided up.

EXCLUSIVE - Sony's Next PlayStation Handheld - Insider Gaming

Codenamed the Q Lite, the next PlayStation handheld is the next piece of Sony hardware that aims to be yet another piece of hardware that requires the PlayStation 5. Insider Gaming understands that the Q Lite is not a cloud-streaming device, but instead uses Remote Play with the PlayStation 5 – A feature the console giant has been pushing these past couple of weeks.
Sporting adaptive streaming up to 1080p and 60FPS, the new device will require constant connectivity to the internet.

As for the console’s physical features, early prototypes show the console will look a lot like a PlayStation 5 controller, but with a massive 8-inch LCD touchscreen in the center. The device sports adaptive triggers for haptic feedback and will include what you would come to expect from a handheld – Volume buttons, speakers, an audio input jack, etc.

The article also mentions PS5 Pro for a 2024 release.

It sounds cool but also sounds like a hardsell, like just why?

Another accessory? This sounds like PlayStation meets Wii U.

:woozy:
