Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Sony constantly taking more and more Ls lately, they just raised the prices of psplus...

Sooo...do they not have this enablement with the current prices??? WTF
I don’t get any of these services. How much is the rise?

when psplus was first announced to be mandatory for playing online with the Ps4, it was $50. at some point last gen, they raised the price $10 to $60. and now they're raising it by another $20 for $80, what they now call the psplus essential.

I don't know much about the other tiers other than the fact that they were supposed to be Sony's (pathetic) attempt at competing with gamepass, but the premium version's price has been raised by $40 from the original price

Current prices (USD) are 59.99, 99.99 and 119.99 respectively.
Thanks, those are hefty price rises then, might put some people off who were thinking of jumping in.

I think it was recently announced that these gaming subscription services have plateaued, and I think that might be why Sony thinks they can get away with raising the prices again

That's a big increase. I'll hold off on renewing mine until they discount it in Black Friday or something. I'm not playing any online games now anyway.

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy XVI and it has been really fun as far as I've gotten, and given me some of the epic feel I wished from Ragnarok, but I'm getting some internal pressure to get through it so I can start playing Baldur's Gate 3, which seems ridiculously good.

Maybe people will cancel with the higher prices - although I guess they expect the lost money from cancellations to be made up from the higher prices for those who stay.

I'm already seeing a lot of people saying they won't reup when their current subscription expires.

Ugh. I don't play online enough to justify another hike. Sony making strange and rubbish choices these days. The sheer nerve to announce a price increase alongside Saints Row as your big monthly title.... lol.

I’m just kind of shocked by the size of the price rise. The lowest tier for just online play is pretty expensive now too.

Yeah, I’ve seen the same on a bunch of gaming forums. Seems like a miscalculation by Sony, at least the size of the price rise. It’s too much in one go, and I can’t imagine the reaction if there is another big rise like this in a couple of years or so.

The PSPlus 'freebies' have been fun, but let's not forget that this is essentially a premium we're forced to pay just to use our internet connection. Online play is not a bonus like it was back in the day, and a huge chunk of modern games have major online components. $80 a year to use key video game features is ridiculous.

I immediately cancelled my subscription so it will not auto-renew. It seems a fair few are doing so, and I would strongly reccommend everyone does the same. Voting with your wallet is the only way to send a message.

The crux of the problem to me is that the service itself isn't getting any better; they're just raising the price just because they can. Their justification was that the hike will "enable them to continue with the psplus quality..." or some bullshxt like that, so like, were they having budget issues with the current set prices?! The statement makes it seem like they're implying they wouldn't be able to continue sustaining it but clearly no one is buying it and (hopefully) it will backfire on them.

I have never, ever paid full price for psplus. Even back when it was at its cheapest at $50, I always looked for deals. And ever since I was hearing more and more about psplus accounts getting hacked, I took my account off of autorenewal and removed my credit card information. Ever since then, I've always manually reupped and waited either for black Friday deals or just deals whenever I can find them.

And you're right, in the Ps3 days, playing online for free was one of the best things about playstation. I honestly don't care that much about the monthly games, either. so I only have psplus to pay just to use our internet connection as you said.

I think most would prefer no fee for Essential and no free games, can just buy some games you personally choose with the money saved instead. Can’t expect them to voluntarily chop an automated income that is making them a ton, but at least don’t harshly raise it.

The sad thing is ps plus this is more expensive than game pass and that has better features, and one can even make the argument that Game Pass price increase is justifiable with the ability to stream games… Sony making decisions like they used to do in the PS3 era.

I think gamepass ultimate is still a little more expensive than ps plus premium but what you get with the former is so much greater than the latter

Hmm probably better for me, to buy a $70 dollar physical game, than a pay $80 for a service that is only good for a month. Unless you play everyday and won't get burned out trying out every game in there, okay. Maybe its worth it.

Edit: I did my calculations, and $80 doesn't seem too bad if its for the entire year. However the most eXpensive plan (premium) probably got the best games/service. So *shrugs*. $13.3 a month is that eXpensive for online players? I don't play online games aside from Fall Guys.

PlayStation Portal Release Date Revealed, Pre-Orders Now Live - PlayStation LifeStyle

November 2024

Yeah. This isn't for me. I wasn't even attempted getting a Switch when it was popular like 3 years ago and I definitely don't want to play playstation games this way.

It makes me wonder when will the ps5 slim come out now? Mid or early 2024? Ps5 pro is targeted for Q4 2024.
Where did you see that a Ps5 pro is confirmed for 2024? That article says nothing about it

It is reported by sites and links about it have been posted in this thread. It is not confirmed by Sony obviously as they haven't officially announced a ps5 slim and ps5 pro. But still.
