Man it's crazy to me that Sony acquired Bungie, a studio responsible for arguably one of the greatest FPS multiplayer titles of all time, not to mention Destiny which I think has one of the most interesting and rewarding evolutions of live service narrative models... And then they're still barking up different trees to try and get some more live service models going?
Between this and seeing Helldivers fizzle, I think we're seeing the negative effects of Sony's slow corporate decision making. I think if they were smart, they would pour everything into Helldivers 2 and Destiny 2 (building towards Destiny 3), then just build out from there. Live service is such an incredibly difficult market to break into with something new... But if you've already got a foot in the door with other titles, just build and build and build. Throw regular, compelling content into the mix and give people a reason to keep coming back.
In the meantime your building your premiere teams, acquiring loads of new talent and you're getting a tonne of business data on what works for your company. I guarantee, they put excellent devs together and let them cook, sparks will fly and new ideas are inevitable. THEN you work on your new live service concepts, with teams that already know the lay of the land.
