The Official Super Mario Bros Reboot/1993 Film Discussion Thread

Mirrormask was a little too weird, but what im sayin is that if they stay close to the game only young kids would like it, that's why i love the 1993 version so much

OMG

In Panama City Beach, Florida, there's an old arcade on the strip named Fun Land. Three years ago they had that exact pinball machine. Best believe I was pissed when I found out they'd gotten rid of it. :cmad:

And what I'm saying is that it doesn't have to be that way - I mean, look at the world of Mario. You've got giant turtles, piranha plants, guys who wear mushrooms on their heads, and on and on and on. If done correctly, this could be turned into quite the surrealistic fantasy film.

BS. Mario does suffer some prejudice from the folks who like things "DARK! GRITTY! X-TREEEEEME!!!" (usually teenagers or jock-minded males) but it doesn't mean adults don't like it.

Besides, why do you think people keep mentioning Pixar? Because time and again they actually manage to make cartoons that are enjoyable for kids and adults alike.

I don't see why people keep mentioning pixar anyway... PIXAR IS OWNED BY DISNEY... and unless disney decides to partner up with nintendo, (which is doubtful), pixar isn't an option for a CG movie

They've partnered with Square-Enix for Kingdom Hearts. And SE is known for being difficult. Don't see why it couldn't happen here.

Besides, with the sucess Pixar has, Disney isn't breathing down their necks telling them what to do and how to do it. I'm pretty sure if Pixar and Nintendo came to an agreement, Disney wouldn't have much of a problem running with it.

1) because Square has one of, if not the best animation and gameplay of all video game developers it's no surprise there. Were not sure who pitched the idea to who anyway, both companies are hard to work with.

2) Disney has control over pixar now... Pixar can't make agreements without Disney's inputs.

3) Nintendo has it's own house that does the cinematography... if they can get them to do a movie that looks like the cinematics in Mario Galaxy, or get the company that did the scenes in Smash Bros Brawl, they'd be fine.

Well if any Mario movie would get made CGI or live action nintendo would partner with a film studio, just like Marvel did. Pixar being one such company they are definitely a possibility

I dont see why Disney would be a big deal beyond "Hidden Mickeys"

I agree, Disney and Nintendo could never come to an agrement

I don't think you quite understand... Pixar is owned by disney... everything they make becomes a DISNEY film from now on. Before disney bought them, yes it would be a great choice... but i don't really see disney and nintendo coming to an agreement... its possible but not very likely. Pixar also prizes itself on originality. Do you see any 2D disney characters being redone in a 3D pixar film? NO. Pixar likes to do there own properties. So the Pixar thing will never happen. I assure you.

You know who I'ld like to see direct the film?

Joon-ho Bong (The Host)

That would be terrific! Imagine that! But Stephen Chow (Kung fu hustle) is good also

I need to see it again.

I always knew it had a very Blade Runner feel to it and it's because the art director of Blade Runner served as production designer on this movie.

I watched it last night - I'd forgotten how bad it actually was. The only real saving graces were the talents they - somehow - managed to wrangle in.

Dennis Hopper and Bob Hoskins made this movie worth watching.

Everybody's saying CG, Pixar (real original) is the only way to go, but that's because everyone's only used to a CG Mario in the videogames. Frankly if a new Mario movie is made (which I think eventually will be) I don't want it to look exactly like the videogame I stopped playing so I could go to the theaters.

A new Mario movie could look like Spider-Man, have great action, and still be for kids. Not any of this 'Mirrormask' conceptual stuff, it could look just like a straight-action movie, not that hard to picture.

Mario: Jack Black
Luigi: Jimmy Fallon
Princess Peach: Scarlett Johansson
Bowser: Animatronic/CG, voice of Vin Diesel.

Done.

Despite being called Goombas, I associated that more saurian-headed species with Koopa Troopas, since most of them somewhat resembled a T-Rex (except for the snake-headed one in the elevator). In other words, like the Koopas in the games, these were smaller versions of the movie universe King Koopa.

So those little dinosaurs that the Mario Brothers left Spike and Iggy to out in the desert--the ones that were maybe half a foot long--were those baby Yoshis or just random dinosaurs?

Just random dinosaurs. They're everywhere, throughout the film - including inside hot dog buns. Yum.

As well as on pizza's too.

"Yes. Dino, lizard, hold the mammal, no worms... and, uh, spicy."

But that just sounds really boring, though.
