Well, kind of. Nintendo is really going to have to market the Wii heavily if it aims to be a mass market machine. Nintendo needs to make clear their message. By virtue of the fact that the Nintendo DS is a handheld machine, anyone who saw gamers play the DS outdoors visually saw how unique and fun it is to play. The Wii doesn't have that advantage, which is why you'll find Wii Sports in your North American purchase. Anyway, where was I? Right, here is the first interview I've seen conducted by a mainstream, non-gamer associated news company (ABC):
I'll keep a running list of what I have seen. If you see anything relating to Nintendo's Wii marketing strategy, please post it here.

The Wii Experience
The first commercial, videos of people trying out the Wii, and a look at the Wii Channel interface.

October 11, 2006 - The Wii isn't due out in Japan for another seven weeks, but Nintendo has already started up the marketing campaign. Nintendo's official website is now home to commercials and Wii demo clips, offering a teaser look at the system and its interface.

For the first Wii commercial, and more to come, head on over to Nintendo's commercial page. The first spot is a teaser for the Wiimote. A voice, not unlike the voice used in the commercials for the Touch Generations lineup of games, says the following: "Well what is this? A new Remote Control. Nintendo Wii Remote Control."

A more game-centric approach at marketing the system can be found at the Wii experience page. The page has video clips of a variety of people trying out the Wii-mote. The first three clips show Japanese people, followed by three clips with Americans, one with a French woman and one with an Italian couple.

Finally, the Wii channel interface can be seen at the Wii Channel page. From the top, left to right: Wii menu, News Channel, Weather Channel, Internet Channel, Avatar Channel and Picture Channel.

Nintendo's Wii campaign extends beyond just the Internet, of course. The above commercial has already started airing. Nintendo has also started putting up billboards for the Wii at major train stations.
