A while back, I asked a Mod about whether we could start a trading thread. For me, I know local comic shops and other places, like half-price books, just don't give a collector value on the books they would like to sell. (And, if you're like me, you'd just sell the books to buy other books.) This thread might just fade away...but, I know I'd be interested in filling holes in my collections by trading with some fellow Hypers.
Some simple rules:
Trading cannot happen in this thread. All you can do is mention either books you're looking to get or books you're willing to trade. If you see something you want or something you have, simply PM that person, and it's between both of you what is agreed upon.
This thread will not be used as a forum for any dispute you might have. For me, I might not necessarily trade with someone who I don't know frequents The Hype. For example, if I did a trade with JewishHobbit, I have faith in knowing he's a frequent user of The Hype and more than likely won't rip me off.
In this forum, you may state a positive trade you had with another trader. That's it. Even if you get ripped off, do not post your problems or squabbles in this thread. One of the best ways we'll be able to figure out who we could and should trade with will be positive reviews. (For example, if one of the regulars on The Hype, like Sparta, said another trader gave him a nice trade, I'll probably easily trade with the same person.)
If you get ripped off, simply PM me! Mistakes and problems might arise. But, if I hear that someone isn't acting in good faith, I'll try and talk to them. If they continue to be a problem, I'll discuss the problem with a Mod and see if we can do anything within our ability to make sure it doesn't happen again. (I.E. If a bad trader is on here, I could hopefully get their postings removed or get permission to post a notice that trades with someone might not be in other traders best interest.) But, in the end, it's trader beware.
AGAIN, ALL DEALS MUST BE DONE VIA PM OR EMAIL! This was the one aspect of us getting to have a trading thread on The Hype. If Mods see any hassle with this thread, it will simply be removed, and I would totally understand any Mod doing that if it comes to it.
When you complete a trade, make sure you edit your posting very quickly. If you sell an issue or set, remove it from this thread so others are bugging you to buy it. Or, if you complete a trade and no longer are wanting a book, remove it, too.
That's pretty much it. Pretty simple.
One other use of this thread is if someone feels they can judge condition of comics, feel free to give advice in how to do that. One of the biggest problems a trading thread could have is in detailing condition of your books. Since I've bought quite a few comics over the years, I feel somewhat confident in judging...but, not totally confident. And, I'd hate to think I was getting Very Fine and it turns out to be only Good.
