The Phantom

It'll have to be better written with the Knaufs behind it. Unfortunately, TV is a visual medium and a crappy costume can definitely ruin the whole production, no matter how good the script turns out. :o

More pictures of THE PHANTOM just cuz.

I don't know about anyone else but I liked Billy Zane's "The Phantom". IMO it's one of the most underrated superhero movies out there.

BTW anyone here seen the old Phantom serial?

Wow, I didn't even notice that all those lines on his costum make a skull.

Kinda cool huh? :woot:
Its kind of cool now. When I first saw the movie I thought "All those lines make him look stupid" Now that I got a closer look its much better.

Hey, another thing on the new costume for the SyFy show, wheres he going to put his guns? Or are they really going to make him more of a Batman type. Geez one thing that made the Phantom cool was that he wasn't afrid to use guns like most heros.

The costume is cool, but I would've preferred it if they put some kind of muscley bodysuit underneath it or some padding on top like The Dark Knight bat-suit. In spite of the skulls silk-screened into it (which do look awesome), the whole thing looks a bit plain. A superhero ought to be a little bit larger-than-life.

But Zane was pretty jacked up at the time, but those suits suppress any definition.

Costume wise, I got to see it up close, and I loved the details in it. Now, we get a fricking purple windbreaker and Chuck Taylors...

Indeed. If I recall correctly, I read that he worked out like a mad man so he'd be appropriately pumped up without body armor.

I loved the Zane costume. He looked like a massively muscular guy in a body suit, which is exactly what the Phantom is.

Which is depressing for Zane because the movie was supposed to be his vehicle. It was supposed to be successful and make him a household name. Then it bombed. Sure, Billy Zane was the bad guy on Titanic, but his career just never took off after The Phantom bombed. It's sad.

Which is a shame, 'cause it was just a solid, good ol' fashion pulp adventure the whole family could see, and people just weren't going for that in the 90s. Same with The Shadow, another underrated gem.

Oddly, I remembered Treat Williams more from the Phantom movie than Billy Zane.

Cuz Treat chews scenery. Look at the cast, you have Zane trying to hold his own (and quite charmingly) against Catherine Zeta Jones, Treat Williams, Cary Tagawa and what's her name, the chick who was the love interest.

But Catherine Zeta-Jones wasn't a household name yet, so she doesn't really count.

It doesn't look too bad. I'd much rather have the original costume though. When does this start up?

Kristy Swanson...I own the movie on DVD

That costume looks horrible, just horrible.

I do not mind the costume at all. I would have liked the original one, but remember this is SYFY, they do not want costumes or shows to get all outragously fantastical. One time president of the Sci Fi Channel, Bonnie Hammer didn't want Sci Fi to be too...Spacey. So the hero looks more Condorman than Phantom, as long as the villain is properly EEEEEEEEEEvil, and the hero gets in alot of fights and rescues a few damsels in distress, this definitely is something I want to see.
