The PLASmatic Music Recomendations

I'm going to see Flaming Lips, Bob Dylan, Violent Femmes and Ray LaMontagne next Saturday. (It's my third time seeing Bob Dylan) I cannot wait for that.

I'm really enjoying Rather Ripped, Lights Out is one of my favourites so far.

I got a question for y'all.

I'm looking for some more jazz stuff--classic and modern stuff.

Any recomendations?

John Coltrane. Miles Davis. Dizzy Gillespie. Stanley Jordan. Count Basie. Duke Ellington. Tommy Dorsey.

That ought to get you started.

yeah, i love that song "jams run free". that's seriously one of the best sonic youth songs i've heard in a long time. kim's voice actually sounds decent on it.

Kind of Blue is the essential jazz album for any beginner. I'm personally a jazz fan, and I still find myself listening to Kind of Blue more than any other album.

So, yeah, Miles Davis.

They got rid of all the noise...

i cannot imagine sonic youth getting rid of "all the noise". honestly i havn't heard much after experimental jet set.... but now am afraid to hear this new one.

don't worry, he's exagerating. there's still noise and alternate tunings and all the experimental nature that sonic youth has displayed before, but now they employ more melody. their kind of melody, at least. trust me, it's a really good album. check out their myspace page, they've got some of the best songs from that album available for download there.

Flaming Lips = Best live band ever. You're in for a great show sinewave

My God, that show was ****ing amazing. Violent Femmes were great too.

I don't know if i've mentioned them before but anyone heard of Guillemots? Check them out here: http://www.guillemots.com/

I didn't mean it in a bad way. They took a refreshing direction on this album and I like it. :(

I was just listening to the Stone Sour CD again, today. Man I really love that CD (which is ironic, since I really can't stand Slipknot (no offense, Slip)). I really wish they'd do another album.

Stone Sour is actually coming out with an album this summer. Later summer release I believe. Slipknot took a break after their last release and touring and now they are working on side projects and whatnot. But yeah, Slipknot doesn't sit well with a lot of people, it's fine with me... heh, no offense taken.

Really? This is good news. I'm going to have to find out more about this new album. Thanks. It's rare for me to really like one part of an artist's work and loathe another part of it like I do with the Stone Sour vs. Slipknot stuff, actually. I was stunned that Taylor and Root were the same guys from Slipknot when I first heard the Stone Sour stuff, which I find to have much more musicality, relevance and layers to be honest. It's an odd dichotomy in the material between their two bands.

Yep, the new Stone Sour album comes out on August 1st. Have you listened to Slipknot's "Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses)" by any chance? Some people hated Slipknot prior to this album. Slipknot changes their style quite a bit through each release and seems to gain new types of fans after each album.

interesting fact, almost 1K posts in almost two years, and the thread has stayed in topic throughout most of its history

thanks to everyone

listen to Pretty Girls Make Graves

Yeah, I've heard some of that album. Still not really my cup of tea.

Slint's spiderland is a landmark album, great all the way through, but be careful, it's not an easy album to like, it takes time, but once you get used to it, you become hooked on it

blood on the walls is a really good band. check them out.

I learned about Brendan Benson from his collaboration with Jack White for the Raconteurs. I wasn't a HUGE fan of their music, but it was definitely good, so I checked out some of Brendan's solo stuff. It's freakishly poppy, but it's still really good. If you like the Shins, I recommend it.
