The PLASmatic Music Recomendations

they made heartbeats as well... from that sony commercial

Ladies and Gentlemen, do yourself a favor and seek out a self titled album from Houston native Jay Hooks. This guy plays old school ass-ripping heavy electric roadhouse Texas blues and has definitely worked for his chops with influences from Hendrix, SRV, Albert King, Johnny Winter and many others. This guy absolutely freaking shreds. Highly recommended!

eau claire

eau calire EP.

I have to admit, I have never heard of the band "experimental aircraft" but after listening to eau claire, I kind of wish I had.
apparently it feaures two singers from EA and these girls sing beautifully on this CD. it's strictly a dream-pop offering, late afternoon music.
the instrumentation is not mind-blowing, but very enjoyable.
i'd like to see more bands like these get a little more air on radio stations, somehow I think that's asking a little too much.

the early years' self titled debut album is pretty good. recommended if you like the velvet underground, luna, my bloody valentine or film school.

Just found an album by a band called the Annuals, "Be He Me", it's pretty good. They sound a lot like Broken Social Scene. Eclectic, fuzzed-out, experimental pop songs.

This new Explosions in the Sky album, "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone", is kicking my ass. Anyone who likes tight, soaring instrumental rock like Mogwai or Godspeed You Black Emperor! should definitely check it out.

I just discoverd Bruce Springsteen. How in the heck did I not find his stuff sooner? :wow:  :O

Has anybody listened to "The Knife" ?
I can't stop listening to " we share our mother's health"
It's actually pretty decent, a bit of electro revivalist, but OK overall.
they remind me more than a bit of French band called " Les Rita Mitsouko"
granted one is new and the other is from 1982, so it kind of drives home the whole "revivalist" thing.

we share our mother's health is my favorite song on the album. silent shout was easily the best record of 2006.

they made heartbeats as well... from that sony commercial

the wrote the song, but the version used in the sony commercial was jose gonzalez's.

1. the new stooges album leaked, and it mostly sucks. just toss funhouse on the turntable and pretend this new album never existed.

2. despite the new album sucking, the stooges are still one of the greatest bands of all time, and put on a ridiculously amazing live show.....and i got second row tickets!!!!!!!!!

A couple recommendations:

1. Bayside'snew album, The Walking Wounded. It sounds like a more punky version of the Smoking Popes, and you can definitely hear the influences from bands like Jawbreaker or the Popes, but more modern of course.

2. He Is Legend's new album(well, sort of), Suck Out The Poison. While very different from their previous two albums, it still packs the punch and flavor that makes them, in my opinion, a badass band.

3. Judgement Day's Dark Opus. Picture heavy metal with a violin and cello instead of guitars. You get these guys. This is just a side thing for them, they usually are the guys who track over some of your favorite artist's music, if they want to add a violin or cello, of course. Anyway, it's pretty unique and badass.

4. Dustin Kensrue's Please Come Home. Now, I am a bit biased here, because he is the lead singer of my favorite band, Thrice. But, to my surprise, this solo album sounded absolutely nothing like the vein of Thrice. It's more of a Johnny Cash-esque album.

Deerhoof's Friend Opportunity is a pretty interesting listen.
for those of you who had heard of them before, this could be their most accessible album to date.
I mean that in a good way, like Animal Collective's "feels"was their "accessible"
album, this time around the guys ( and girl ) that form Deerhoof bring their usual wackyness, which I personally think comes from massive amounts of drugs and/or transcendental mediation ( but mostly drugs) the highlights include +81,Cast Off Crown and Matchbook Sees Maniac now, don't ask me how she manages it, but on this record Satomi Matsuzaki's voice is, if you're in the wrong mood, the single most annoying thing on the planet, so approach with caution on that note. though for the most part it works perfectly, this one particular night her voice drove me to near insanity:dry: for those who can't picture it it's a cross between Cibo Matto and nails on a chalkboard.

anybody a fan of blonde redhead? i picked up their 3rd album, "fake can be just as good" and it's ****ing amazing. check them out if you like bands like fugazi, sonic youth or soundtracks to 60's/70's giallo movies.

Hot dog.

Long time, no see GB.

I sure hope you remember me 'round these parts.

It's MidKnight/Jack Rabbit.

Apparenly my old account was lost in the year I was away.

i've really been digging the shout out louds' 2005 album "howl howl gaff gaff". really catchy indie-pop from sweden in the vein of the wannadies, the figurines and superchunk, with hint of robert smith's vocals. i can't get the song "the comeback" out of my head. plus, the girl who plays keyboards and sings back-up is drop dead gorgeous. check 'em out if you like lo-fi, catchy indie-pop.
