It's so generic and bland. It's like anything you'd hear on the radio. They go further downhill every album. I doubt this one will be any different from the looks of it.

The Decemberists - Picaresque

Picaresque is an amazing album, plain and simple. Colin continues to get closed to Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Magum with every song I hear by The Decemberists. "The Infanta" has the most inventive and interesting lyrics I've ever heard. "We Both Go Down Together", "Eli, the Barrowboy", "the Bagman's Gambit", "On the Bus Mall", and "From My Own True Love" are amazing songs. "The Sporting Life" is an ode to those who prefer the library to the field. "Sixteen Military Wives" uses beautiful imagery. God, just buy the f***ing album now!!!

Listen, I was THE biggest weezer fan around. I have their poster on my wall, I have at least 5 of their shirts, I've seen them live, I bought The Lion and the Witch hard to find live album. But that song just sucks.

yesterday I downloaded Slint's Spiderland album, I haven't heard it all the way through, but it does sound interesting, when I bump into stuff like this I wonder why the heel was I into death metal in 91

Mad Caddies- Leavin'
The Exies- Baptize Me
Hawthorne Heights- Nikki FM

I've discovered the most wonderfully strange and beautiful music the other day. Her name is Joanna Newsom and she plays the harp and she sings. Her album is called The Milk-Eyed Mender.

Here's a list of bands from Austin. Some are better than others (meaning some I mentioned purely because they are from Austin)...

Vallejo - think Santana meets Jane's Addiction. I've met a couple of them.

www.vallejomusic.com

Patrice Pike - she plays rootsy rock...think a lower-key Ben Harper or Black Crowes with female vocals

www.patricepike.com

Los Lonely Boys - "Texican" rock...think Santana meets Stevie Ray Vaughan

www.loslonelyboys.org

Cruiserweight - Green Day-esque punk with female vocals. I've interviewed them.

www.cruiserweight.com

Blue October - indie post-grunge hard rock with a twist...electric violin

www.blueoctober.com

Canvas - think a less metallic Godsmack with an obsession with middle eastern rhythms

http://www.canvas-online.com/home.html

W.C. Clark - Austin soul-blues guitarist and former mentor to Stevie Ray Vaughan

www.wcclark.com

Gary Clark Jr. - Incidentally, I went to high school with this guy. Anyway, he's a blues guitarist...but more old school/traditional than most.

www.garyclarkjr.com

Tribal Nation - pure reggae

http://www.tribalnationmusic.com/index.htm

The Gourds - bluegrassy, folky band with a humerous and often goofy attitude. They aren't a comedy band in the least though.

www.thegourds.com

Fastball - Some of you might have heard of them. They play what I would call pop-rock with a very very slight latin flavor.

www.fastballmusic.com

Unloco - there should be one of those double period accent marks over the n in thier name but I don't know how to type that. Anyway, they play fairly generic but decent modern metal. They played Ozzfest in 2003

www.unloco.com

Two Guy Trio - there's four of them. They play fairly poppy indie rock with a laid back and goofy vibe.

www.twoguytrio.com

Ian Moore - he plays bluesy rock that's also a little poppy I'd say

www.ianmoore.com

Eric Johnson - The best of the 80s shredder guitarists (because he's not over-indulgent with his playing). Now he mixes that style with out right blues. I've met him.

www.ericjohnson.com

Doyle Bramhall II - one of the few blues-rock guitarists out there today who may be able to reach the mantle that was held by Stevie Ray Vaughan. He plays in Eric Clapton's band now (as far as I know)

www.doylebramhall2nd.com

Doyle Bramhall - The father of Doyle II. He's a singing blues drummer. He co-wrote a few Stevie Ray Vaughan songs.

www.doylebramhall.com

MC Overlord - big fat rapper...who doesn't rap about cliche things like *****es and hos and money and shoes and bling

http://www.onr.com/user/ranhines/MCOVERLORD.html

Dirty Wormz - I hear good things about them. They play what they call "Street Rock"...a fusion of rock and hip-hop...but in a non-poser way.

The Real Heroes - Good, fun, straightforward rawk. I've interviewed them.

hey King Of Dreams, we'll be playing in Austin in late may, feel free to hang around

Some cool suggestions KingOfDreams, Thanks!

Anybody heard of Lifter Puller? They are a now-defunct band from New Jersey that plays Buesy story-rock ala Bruce Springsteen (To those of you that are about to run screaming at that refernce, don't worry - I've never liked "the Boss" either, but these guys are heavier and much cooler IMO) The songs flow so well and paint such a vivid picture that it's hard not to love them after a few listens (you will have to listen more than once...I did, but now they are a part of me!) If your interest is peaked, check out the CD "Fiestas Fiascos", a concept album about a night club owner and a hooker that both get addicted to drugs and in trouble with the wrong guys. Awesome stuff!

Plas, What's the name of your group?

I'm not sure of the name of the club yet, I'll post it here when the date draws closer, the name of the band is El Estado, which means The State is spanish

Ever plan on hitting Toledo, Ohio?
