No matter how crazy Ken was, I don't think he had any say in the price of the PS3. Sony wanted to kill two birds with one stone and forced Blu-Ray on the PS3. Heck, he and his team had a DVD PS3 already planned until Sony pushed it back to put in BR.

I have no answers for some of his face palming quotes though.

All I know is that in 10 years sony has gone from almost total console market domination to slugging it it out for 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd place.

I don't know what trick they have up their sleeves to try to put themselves ahead again?

ps. I think in the long run having ps3 with blu-ray was the smart move. Otherwise they'd be like xbox trying to make games on an outdated format. Sometimes needing 3-4 discs for one game...and blu-ray is cool.

Remember 6 years ago when people said that BR would NEVER take of and just couldnt compete with HD-DVD or DVD for that matter. Boy has the format grown and expanded. I think it was the right decision as well, especially for some of the perks it allows developers to do such as add free games (like AC1 with ACB; Bioshock with Bioshock Infinite). It also gives them freedom to not have to worry about disc space

It was absolutely the right move. I think they are quite happy with the results. BR took off and won the "High Def War" and they still sold/are selling a lot of PS3's.

VG247 has been told that Sony is aiming to release PlayStation 4 before Xbox 720 next Christmas, and that certain developers have been invited to reveal meetings in the US in May and June.

so, if Microsoft's next console uses Blu-Ray as the format, wouldn't Sony also profit from that, too ( indirectly, I guess, through licensing )?

Sony is only one of many that hold Blu-Ray patents. However, they are also one of many that hold DVD patents as well.

Looks like a well deserved failure if this does happen with Xbox 720 and PS4. Nintendo and PC Gaming will take advantage of this...

Yeah same here. I think once the digital rights rumors started they snowballed because yeah that's something no one wants to happen.
