The Raconteurs Thread.

awesome band and a great bunch of guys. i wish they'd put out a live version of their first album. broken boy soldiers is good, btu when you hear those songs worked out live, its a whole new animal, and quite epic. it makes the album sound like a demo. thankfully, i have some great soundboard recordings of live shows, but still....

blue veins is one of the greatest love songs i've ever heard. especially hearing live 8 minute renditions with completely sick and passionate guitar solos from jack. and carolina drama is quite the dramatic and operatic tale, taking the best inspirations from desire era dylan.

i also love their choice of covers. rich kid blues (terry reid) is the only cover to show up on an album, but theres some choice covers in their live sets: teenage kicks (the undertones), heading for the texas border (flamin' groovies), bang bang (nancy sinatra).

much of the attention towards the band goes towards jack and brendan. but the rhythm section made up of little jack and patrick keeler is one of the best and tightest in modern music. the fact that they've been playing together for over a decade really shows. little jack is a true musician and phenomenal bassist, and keeler is hands down the best drummer in music today, the dude is a modern day mitch mitchell. i think brendan is the weak link in the band. quality musician, and a great pop artist. but when compared to the rest of the band, he comes up short. considering the history of the band members, i would have much preferred Johnny Walker of the soledad brothers/cut in the hill gang.

yeah, The Raconteurs are great and will have a place in my life forever, since the first song i learned on guitar was The Switch and The Spur.

Dead Weather sounds awesome!

The Kills Alison Mosshart, Jack White on drums and vocals, Raconteur Jack Lawrence on bass and Queens Of The Stone Age's Dean Fertita's on guitar.

Its funny Alison Mosshart and Jack White are in a band together because everyone used to compare The White Stripes to The Kills when the whole garage rock scene was the big thing.

a bit of background into on dean fertita: he is also a detroit native and musician. he's been brendan benson's guitarist and was in a band called the waxwings. he's also played on both raconteurs albums and would tour with them playing keys/guitar/and other misc. instruments. it was around this time he got picked up to play in queens of the stone age. great dude, always been a real nice fellow.

Looks like Jack White is involved with many other bands besides The White Stripe.

Thank goodness someone has good enough sense to start this thread. I was thinking of starting it myself but was always distracted. Thanks, darkseid.

Anyway, I've not been a fan of this fantastic band for long. Never knew or heard of them until I was channel surfing one night in 2007 (I think) and there they were, on Austin City Limits (I think... I'm going senile and my memory is failing). I fell in love at first song. Been listening to them since.

Blue Veins is indeed one of the best love songs, imo. It reminds me of Led Zep. So freakin' bluesy. In a lot of Jack White's songs, I hear a lot of Led Zep influence, more in The Raconteurs than in White Stripes and therefore I prefer the former to the latter. I've been listening to Many Shades of Black quite a lot lately too.

So... CHEERS to THE RACONTEURS. I hope I am fortunate enough to be able to watch them perform live someday. They're fast becoming one of my most favorite bands.

i seen them live twice already. good show. great performances, awesome stage presence.
seriously, you're killing me with jealousy here. how is it you always manage to see these shows? the closest thing to live i've seen from these guys was their performance on Conan and that had me floored.

i thought the conan performance was pretty lackluster. it lacked the passion and energy i witnessed at the live show, which is their strongest asset.

my only issue with the band live thus far is they have reverb and other effects on EVERYTHING! they have this wall of sound hitting you, which is great, but it can sound real murky. (this wasnt as obvious in the conan performance.) there was no real definition in the sounds hitting you. dean is a great guitarist, but it gets lost from time to time because of this. but the material is rather good, the stage presence is awesome, their energy is great. allison is fantastic up front. they're still in their infancy though, so i hope it gets worked out as they progress. right now i'd say they're a good band with potential to be great.

I'm glad this thread exists. Consolers of the Lonely was excellent, can't wait for the Dead Weather's release.

Brendan Benson's solo stuff is pretty good, definitely more pop (but certainly not a bad thing). Apparently he's been under the radar since the 90's but never really hit it big. Shame.

brendan is pretty good. he has some awesome pop sensibilities, which i greatly admire, but his song writing can be pretty lacking from time to time. i always felt he was the weakest link the raconteurs.

but everyone really should check out the greenhornes. which is the band keeler and lawrence came from. such an incredible band. far superior to the raconteurs.

Does anyone know if those release dates are for 1 day, Or are they gonna be playing the film for a few weeks? Been waiting to see this since it premiered last fall.
