The Raid - US remake

Hahahahahah, enjoy your shaky cam PG-13 bullcrap America!!!!

I guess this shouldn't be that much of a surprise. But it is true very few people(relatively) in US will watch this movie cause we hate to read.

Screen Gems Eyes The Raid Remake

Following a successful debut at the TorontoFilmFestival earlier this month, Gareth Evans' The Raid is likely for an American remake. The Hollywood Reporter has word that ScreenGems is interested in developing an English-language version of the Indonesian action film.

Though Evans is expected to make an American film his next project, he reportedly turned down the offer to remake The Raid himself.

Starring Iko Uwais, Doni Alamsyah, Joe Taslim, Yayan Ruhian and Ray Sahetapy, the original film took place in the slums of Jakarta and featured a police raid of a criminal safe house. Click here to check out the trailer to the original.

Hmm...no thanks. Jeez let the original film get a moment to breath. The US version will pale in comparison.

Just watched the trailer for the original(of course)and that looks ****ing fantastic.

The US version has a chance. Get some of the best screen martial artists, Scott Adkins, Gary Daniels, Michael Jai White, etc. Get someone interesting enough to be entertaining while mostly contained in a solitary room watching from a monitor as the villain. Get a film crew who understand clarity and simplicity.

But unfortunately I have absolutely no faith in the Hollywood system to deliver a stripped down, low key film that could serve as a showcase for the distinctive martial arts styles of some very underrated and little known actors. They're just going to hire actors who can't fight, but have star power, and they'll be doubled, so they're gonna have to shaky cam and cut the hell out of the film. R rated films don't make money, and given most film makers penchant for letting their budgets spiral out of control, they'll cut it even further, leaving the film a jumbled mess.

That's not to mention that the script will no doubt be a terrible, cliched roll of toilet paper, with jingoistic dialogue and terrible jokes in place of any attempt of creating genuine characters.

Have you seen the original dude? I was under the impression that it would require good actors not just stuntmen who can fight and read lines, as it won an award at TIFF. It basically seems like a SWAT version of Die Hard to me, I don't think doing a remake will be that hard.

They can still go R as it doesn't seem costly, but they probably wont base the action so heavily around this martial art.

My impression was that it was a balls to the wall martial arts showcase. If it's a genuine film, with genuine story and genuine acting, then my post is totally out of context.

Jason Statham will probably be offered the lead.
