The thing on Mythbusters didn't have anything to do with accuracy, they said you couldn't split it because the arrow doesn't break that way. Hitting an actual arrow in a target would deflect the flight of the second one hitting it. They shoot an arrow into a hollow tube in this video, which is completely different.

On Mythbusters they showed you can't really split an arrow because the wood doesn't split right (except for freak random occurances), not because of accuracy. Also, I'm pretty sure this was just an archery exhibition, I don't think they were trying to prove or disprove anything.

It can happen, they even gave examples of it, they just said you can't just shoot it accurately enough and have it happen whenever you want.
