I thought the argument wasn't whether or not global warming was happening, but rather what was causing it?

I thought so myself. You still have some hardcore deniers who doubt that any climate change is occurring at all.

I think the debate is still on about just how much man is affecting the climate. What I don't understand is why there is such a fight against the idea of policies allowing for a cleaner environment. I seriously doubt that they will, as one poster stated, ruin our economy.

Because to some, policies governing a cleaner environment (cue the overly dramatic most ridiculous music you can imagine) would mean "THE DOWNFALL OF ALL BUSINESS...OF THE ECONOMY...OF VERY CIVILIZATION ITSELF!"

What some don't realize is that in changing over into cleaner fuel and energy alternatives, not to mention lifestyle, we would create millions of new jobs and add to the economy. The profits would be there, they just wouldn't be going to the stuck up, self-righteous a**h**** that are already robbing us blind.

How? Millions of new jobs???? Where? Add to the economy? How much???

Not trying to argue here, but that's a big statement, just wondering if you have the facts to back it...Also, what energy alternatives are you talking about?

I'll have to see if I can find a facts link, but trust me, it's the truth. Investing in wind, solar, hydrogen, etc. would create alot of green jobs. Changing our lifestyles, leaving this world better than we got it, is not the apocalypse as some would like you to believe. It's the right thing to do.

I asked this in the last Global Warming thread and got no answer; how fast are the oceans rising?

The water level isn't a big issue now. It will be in the middle of the century, and the water levels are expecting to rise by a few feet by 2100. Which is big, because so many cities in the U.S. alone are only a few feet above sea level. If the waters rise three feet, New York City will be in serious trouble, as will San Diego, the Seven Cities of Hampton Roads (Southern VA, northern NC), and any city on the coast of Florida, which are at sea level.

I looked over the article references. Looks like dailytech exaggerated something.

uh...no it doesn't....

maybe that's why?
Genesis 1.0 needs to learn how to read before he keeps posting. This was pointed out in the other ****ing Global Warming thread, MORE THAN ONCE.

Close/merge. I'm getting sick of pointing this **** out in multiple threads now.

Heh, I won't even dignify THAT with a response.

Yes, because GOD FORBID we discuss something of importance more than once on the hype.......

:whatever:

Dignify what? The revelation that this has been discussed more than once? The fact that you kept on about it even after the, "erasure," portion of your post has been debunked multiple times already?

I do have one comment to add: why the hell are we at the point where the global warming debate belongs in the politics forum? It's really quite sad, when you think about it. Politicians on both sides have latched onto what should be a purely scientific debate.

It would be one thing if politicians were debating the portions of the matter that actually mattered. Instead, it's been used to further personal and political agendas, NOT to institute meaningful change.

Ethanol is crap. Hydrogen fuel cells should be a reality. We have the damned technology. Oil companies are investing in new energy sources, but they won't let go of the old ways. They're going to milk that **** dry.

It's become us versus them. It's pitiful. Limbaugh needs to shut the **** up, and Gore needs to step out of the spotlight. He stands to make a pretty profit from all of this. He's no messiah, however semi-well-intentioned he may be, spreading his message.

**** it all. :cmad:

You're right. We need more homosexuality threads. We need more Obama/Hillary threads. Get to it.

You just weakened your opinion by this post.......discussion is a positive. Discuss where you can man.............it's all good.:yay:

All I said was that it's tiring to debunk the same point over and over again. Are several different threads necessary? See, I was under the impression that there was a reason mods merge/delete repetitive threads.

Now that I have your blessing, though, I guess duplicate threads are a positive as well. :yay:

As far as threads on Global Warming.......this thread started in one vein of discussion, and logically moved to the intricate discussion of Global Warming once again, probably being read by different people than one in Community somewhere......

5 Threads on the issue of "Batman's ****" in the same Spoiler forum....is one thing.

Discussion of a topic in different contexts......is another.

Kel, come on. First page. The only difference is that Limbaugh announced it. Context?

You know what? I apologize Genesis. I was a bit harsh, and unnecessarily at that, upon re-reading that post. I went off on a weird, semi-random tangent after that. Hug?

That's cool, and as the discussion slows on this one, I'll probably merge, just as I do the Clinton/Obama/etc....threads......I let people discuss on them for awhile and then merge.

When you merge, posts get mixed up sometimes, so I like to have a flow of conversation before merging, and that sometimes takes alittle while.

Not a big deal Car.............I promise....these 2 threads will NOT, bring down this forum......:cwink:

The apology to Genesis was very cool BTW.:applaud

Well I actually avoid a debate for once and it paid off.

*Gives man-hug*

But all that crap aside, my focal point was that it took one year to create this type of change, to observe the reaction it's garnered and lack thereof in the media, and just what would this mean if the trend continues in this particular vein.

A global cooldown would definitely be more devestating in my humble opinion and now it seems that the sentiment for this sort of change seems to be gathering suport.

Well, like I said in the other thread, it is really interesting. People so far have been touting it as some instant-fix (the word, "erase," has been thrown around erroneously). It's completely anomalous.

Worth keeping an eye on, though, for sure.

Thought I post this up.

co2 to Fuel.

Geneticist Craig Venter disclosed his potentially world-changing "fourth-generation fuel" project at an elite Technology, Entertainment and Design conference in Monterey, California.

"We have modest goals of replacing the whole petrochemical industry and becoming a major source of energy," Venter told an audience that included global warming fighter Al Gore and Google co-founder Larry Page.

"We think we will have fourth-generation fuels in about 18 months, with CO2 as the fuel stock."
Imagine instead of wasting money on "carbon credits" and investing into stuff like this. Now if they pull this off, I can imagine environmentalists *****ing about not enough CO2 for plants or something. heh :D

Actually Kel, my favorite one still is "Bale's Butt is not round enough". That one is a classic :D

Oh yeah.....I forgot about that one....

It's funny how environmentalists have become a group to mock.
I don't get it.
we all share the same needs on earth, the fact that some people actively seek to conserve the elements we all need does not make me think that they warrant any derision.
it's almost like " environmentalist" has become a dirty word, an insult.

like " intellectual" I'm saddened by this, but also, I have to admit, it makes the left corner of my mouth crook into a smirk.

Well, it's become a stereotype, hasn't it? There's a spectrum of people that the word encompasses, but the image that stands out in peoples' minds are the eco-terrorists, or the people that chain themselves to trees that are scheduled to be cut down.

Then there's the general resentment for environmentalists that tend to put the environment's needs before (immediate) human needs. That's been a constant struggle recently. I'm not saying the resentment is justified, but that's where this sort of contempt is stemming from.

It's another case of the, "vocal few," representing the rest of the group.

Turning CO2 into fuel is a great idea. I hope they can accomplish it.

But CO2 isn't the problem. The problem is CO-- carbon monoxide. The poisonous fumes released by gas-powered cars and industrial plants. Those emissions cause the greatest damage, not only to the environment, but to our health. Corporations should be forced to limit the amount of CO they pump into our environment. It's possible for them to do this. If countries such as France and Great Britain, the latter of which used to be the biggest supplier of CO emissions until the U.S. rapidly industrialized at the turn of the century, I feel we can do it as well. All they have to do is figure out a way to utilize the most of the elements they burn... which would also improve efficiency, considering something like 40% of the coal we burn in our coal power plants becomes pollutant smog rather than energy, which is a waste if you ask me.

The problem with environmentalists is not whether they are right or wrong. So much of a "doom and gloom" group they are. This attitude does not solve problems. Much of their solutions are either impractical or exasperates the situation.

If you want to be an environmentalist that will make a difference, go into engineering or business where you CAN make the difference. Wasting 4 years to learn how to WHINE "professionally" about problems is less productive than spending 4 years learning how to SOLVE problems.
