The Rush Limbaugh Thread

How long has Rush been on radio now, 20-30 years? (just checked wiki, he's been in radio since the early '70s) I really don't care for ego driven radio or talk show hosts like him, O'Reilly and Olberman.

I mean, when you have these three men (plus Hannity) taking shots at each other every single show, who cares?

O'Reilly is no longer on radio.

As far as Rush, I wish the Obama administration would worry less about old Rushbo, and look at the fact that the Dow has dropped 3,000 pts 3 months. If the Stock Market keeps dropping daily at the rate it is dropping, we will be at 0 in a month.

Let's worry more about that, and less about Rush.

This is a little difficult to read, but yes Rush has been Syndicated for 18 years. There are political Talk Shows that have been on for much longer. Neal Boortz has been on for 39 years. I don't know what your last sentence means.

You know what, I join John Stewart in saying get off of Rush's back, obviously this man is a brilliant man of impecible intelligence, humility and restraint, who deserves to be the voice of his party. I mean for starters he's so brilliant even his own mother didn't understand him, saying "he failed at everything" in school. Obviously this is a man of incredible tenacity.

I mean just look at him, truly this is a self-made man, a picture of robust health and intelligence. He completely believes in his party and their ideals.

Supporting our troops? Of course he supports our troops. He even was gracious enough to his listeners to point out which one of our servicemen were in fact "phony soldiers". Oh, and guess what, it was the soldiers who disagreed with the Iraq war. Who'd have thunk for a minute that all the soldiers who would dare question our purpose in that country were in fact completely faking their love of our country and their willingness to die for it. Thank you Rush.

Personal responsibility, he's got that in spades. For one he's so completely brilliant he failed every class he ever attempted, except for radio of course. That certainly indicates to me he knows so much about the world as to tell us how we should live. But his brilliance came with a price, he needed to take incredible amounts of drugs to bring himself down from his tower down to our level, our very low and diminished level...comparative to Rush.

So thank you Rush, thank you for pointing out Michael J. Fox was a fraud, that feminist were ugly, that Democrats were really in fact connected to al-queda. Thank you for draft dodging, so your talents would not be wasted fighting for your country in Vietnam. Thank you for pointing out to me that Barack Obama was a "magic negro", because I agree magic has no place in the White House. Even better that you put it to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon" so I could pass that little gem of wisdom onto my children.

Who could question the integrity of a man who said he wanted to restart the Chicago riots of 1968. Seriously, who? I say who? So lay off Limbaugh, he's a true American hero.

I would say that the Republican who knocks Limbaugh and DOESN'T apologize will be the one who becomes the leader of the party.

I agree. I think Republicans over-estimate the power that Limbaugh has over their electorate. Most do not listen to talk radio now-a-days. Rush claims to get 13.5 million listeners per week, but I wonder how many listen to his whole program and how many just tune in as they drive from point A to point B and then tune out without giving it a second thought. And I wonder how many of those people just do it for shock value? Most Republicans are rational people. Rush's audience as well as most of the extremist right are a small and vocal minority. They do not control the party as Republican leadership seems to think. The sooner they realize that, the sooner they will become a prominent party. Because the Democrats with their out of control spending certainly are not looking out for the American people...and right now neither are the Republicans.

Why does anyone care what Rush Limbaugh says anyways? He reminds me of that bitter old man who yells for people to get off his lawn. Besides, it says a lot about the republicans for having him speak for them. Isn't this the same man who mocked and accused Michael J. Fox of faking his Parkinson's Disease?

So in all honesty I don't know why he has his own thread. He's clearly a piece of trash who doesn't deserve any attention.

You make a solid point, proofreading failed me.

What I essentially mean is that I don't like watching the talk shows featuring those mentioned when all they do is blast the other guy. It makes it hard to watch because, well, it's annoying.

Now, I don't mean Stewart and Colbert :cwink:

Yep...same idiot.

I don't know much about the whole MJF stuff, so I don't comment on it. Some day, when I care enough to, I'll look it up, but if anyone makes one mistake, is it enough to change my opinion of them? No. I've made mistakes, and I hope that if I'm right enough most of the time, and make mistakes only some of the time, people won't judge me too harshly.

But do you really think I would respect someone who makes fun of people with Parkinsons? That's a tough sell. Who know that mocking people with a crippling disease would be such a hot button issue.

The problem isn't that he made mistake, the problem is he made a mistake and didn't admit it when people called him on it. He says he believes in personal responsibility, but does he apply to himself? Of course not. He makes it a worthless concept. He was railing against drug users, saying they should get tough senteces, but when people find out he is a drug user, he tries to weasle out of the charges.

This is why Rush represents everything that is wrong with the modern conservative movement, he states of bunch of beliefs on his show, but never applies them to his personal life. That's what people think of when they think conservatives nowadays, people who have belief systems that are full of contradictions.

His opinions are worthless because he never applies them to himself and yet people seem to worship him.

You're right, it was one huge mistake, a complete misunderstanding.

As you can see right there, it was a simple slip of the tongue. First of all Rush wasn't insulting him, he was showing concern that he was off his medication. And Rush should know, he stole all of Michael J. Fox's meds that very morning for testing, of course graciously using himself as the guinea pig. In addition, any offensive slant you could put on that is completely unwarranted. First of all the dance was simply him doing his morning calisthenics, something he does to keep his body in it's impectible shape...he's like Wilson Fisk really. So no need to take that as a slight at the physically disabled whatsoever. As for the claim that he was faking the symptoms, well, again, he was simply pointing out how great an actor Michael J. Fox is. I mean even though he really has Parkinsons, in the ad he's paid to play a man with Parkinsons and does so brilliantly as Rush points out. Of course it is shameless though, certainly anyone who's seen movies know you never go full-****** like that...and Michael sadly took it too far, no Oscars for him this year.

Yes, it was a complete mistake for Rush, not indicative of his character at all and no one should hold it against him.

He does have a point though. I have seen the commercial and I have seen Fox on other shows, namely Scrubs and there was a stark difference. I think his point was that he was intentionally doing it to elicit an emotional response from the audience so they would vote for that lady who he was going the commercial for. Its not like he was just attacking him for no reason. It was related to a political ad.

In contrast with:

Not that I agree with him. But, I can see what he means.

And Rush had proof he was faking in that ad? Maybe was having a bad episode the day the day was filmed, did Rush look into that or did he assume he was faking?

I think this is insulting, what evidence is there Fox was faking in that ad? To say he was a faker really demeans people with Parkinsons disease.

Possibly. I think it very well may have been genuine. But, I also can see what Limbaugh was talking about.

:whatever:

The fact that you think Rush has a point definitely makes me question your morals as well.

Michael J. Fox explained it perfectly when he said that certain medication he's on takes a while to kick in. With Parkinson's disease, in his own words, he stated "You take what you can get on any given day."

The fact that Rush MOCKED him and accused him of faking his disease is something that should be remembered and he shouldn't be given any kind of attention, respect, or ratings. He's a piece of trash that flies wouldn't even go towards.

Here's Fox responding to Rush's accusations.

LIMBAUGH: KENNEDY WILL BE DEAD BY THE TIME HEALTHCARE PASSES
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/06/limbaugh-kennedy-will-be_n_172595.html

On his radio show Friday, Rush Limbaugh suggested that Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) would be dead by the time health care reform legislation passes. "Before it's all over, it'll be called the Ted Kennedy memorial health care bill," the talk show host says. He says President Obama has moved on to health care because he can't solve the economic crisis.

Stay classy, Rush.

I don't understand why you pay attention to him if you hate him so much. I don't pay attention simply because I don't care about his opinion. From the brief snips I heard from his CPAC campaign, the sounds bites are nothing you can't find from say Hayek or Mises (albeit somewhat distorted).

I was on a website scrolling through news articles and came across it.

It would seem to me the Media thinks Rush is important. I call poopy cock on them :cmad: Eastern Europe is about to collapse, whilst Rush and Obama's children gets more press time.

Anyways, the one thing I worry about Rush is if he tries taking the classical liberal positions and tries twisting them and discrediting the ideas even more. Like how people attach laissez faire to Bush and Hoover, when it could not be further from the point.

Question my morals? Aren't you the one calling him a piece of trash that flies wouldn't even go towards? That's some real moralistic talkin', right there!

I said that I do not think he is right but I can see what he is talking about. I think you are letting your hatred for someone you don't really know or follow influence the way you talk about him and me. I don't really appreciate being treated that way. You can smear Limbaugh all you want, but at least have the MORAL decency to treat people on this board with a little dignity.

Let's keep the opinions on the discussion and the debate, not others posters.

If the body language Rush used while describing Fox's symptoms are considered "mocking" him, then I have yet to meet someone who does not mock people with motor disabilities when they describe them. If you were to ask me, or anyone else I've ever met how I'd describe Fox's symptoms, the exact same body language would have been used. I have found myself frustrated with Rush plenty of times, but I definitely called bulls*** when people started throwing out accusations over his body language. If you want to say Rush crossed the line by accusing Fox of not taking his medication when he made that speech, then that's perfectly reasonable. But when I saw headlines like "Rush Limbaugh mocks Parkinson's victims!", I could not help but roll my eyes.

I found out I received an infraction for this post and I honestly do not see ANYTHING wrong with this post. Can anyone explain to me what's so offensive about this post? Because I definitely feel like I'm being singled out here and I find it pretty offensive honestly.

By him using said movements he was mocking Parkinson's victims. He could've stated his opinion just fine without the movements, but he was mocking Fox and in this case mocking those with the same affliction.

So yes, I definitely consider what he did to be offensive and mocking of someone who can't do anything about the situation he's in except take his medication and continue to fight for a cure.
