The Rush Limbaugh Thread

Limbaugh and people like him are damaging the Republican Party. People need to stop apologizing for comments against Rush. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the first person who criticizes Rush and doesn't apologize will be the influential voice in the GOP.

I Disagree. For a party to survive, there needs to be a thinker, a communicator, and a front man. Rush is all these things, but he is not a leader. Just like Ben Franklin never controlled a political party, and mostly held non-elected political office, he was extremely influential to the development of our country and its original Governments.

Rush communicates Conservatism to the Base, he is the loudest voice on Conservatism. He wouldn't be in the position he is if it wasn't for his Conservative Beliefs. People wouldn't tune in to listen to what he has to say if they didn't agree with him. AND it doesn't have to be 100%, if you agree with someone 80% of the time, you should continue to work with them.

Rush knows what Conservatism is, he can tell people about it, he can charge people up and get them involved. THOSE are the people that LIBERALS are afraid of. Not Rush, if Rush really had control of the Republican Party, why would he complain about them so much? Why would he want to claim any responsibility to a party in shambles? Look at this party, it is supposed to be the Party of Liberty and Conservation of that liberty. And now it's supposed to be a good idea to become more Liberal, or "moderate"? I don't think so. The party may be shrinking from and Elected Offical standpoint. But, I think that is good.

It is good to have a party with people that want to work together, than can put it's message in a focused platform. "Big Tent" means nothing. I can guarantee you, the Republican Base is growing, the Leadership is changing, and you will see a stronger Republican Party grow out of this.

But, the only contribution to this that Rush has is waking people up to take the reins.

You are sorta contradicting yourself.

You said the conservative party is the Republican party then you say that Republicans are apologizing to Rush on his show. Why would they be apologizing? Because they left the Conservative core behind?

Or maybe I'm missing something.

How am I contradicting myself?

Republican politicians are apologizing to Rush on his show for saying something near critical about him.

I'm pretty sure you're missing something.

I don't think most people know the difference.

They either don't, or don't want to.

Part of the problem, is that right now...The Conservative movement owns the Republican party. Having Conservatives be the face of the party has that effect.

To me you are contradicting yourself because clearly the Republican party has lost its roots in Conservatism. Therefore to say the Republican party is the Conservative party doesn't make sense to me. Thats how I view it and quite a lot of people do as well.

You say they are one and the same and then you said that Republicans (probably Steele) are apologizing to Limbaugh. I'm assuming he is apologizing because he has forgot his place or his 'values' in conservatism.

Thats just my opinion though. Its nothing against you I just think you are wrong in saying that The Republican Party is Conservative.

Limbaugh needs to stop pretending that he knows what 'Republican' means.

It is good to have a party with people that want to work together, than can put it's message in a focused platform. "Big Tent" means nothing. I can guarantee you, the Republican Base is growing, the Leadership is changing, and you will see a stronger Republican Party grow out of this.

I'm not quite sure where you get your stats, but all signs point to an increasingly regionalized Republican Party.

What??

...I have no idea where I suggested even half of that.

I'm just saying, that Republican politicians...supposedly people with power, are begging for forgiviness from Boss Limbaugh if they should dare call him a *gasp* entertainer. It has nothing to do with losing they're conservative roots. Not they're apologizes, at least. It just has to do with upsetting Boss Limbaugh.

And yes, the Republican party is one thing and the Conservative party is another. BUT. The Republican party is basically an empty seat at this point without the conservative base. The faces of the Republican party right now are Conservatives.

Unless Limbaugh and Sarah Palin are not considered conservatives...aren't they?

Fiscal conservatism is the root of the party, right? But is the religious conservatism too? Or was that something the Bush era ushered in?

Death of the Republican party is being thrown around alot too.

Which is sad, because I do believe in a two party system. I'd rather have more than that too, but a one party system...can be bad.

The Republican Leadership is sucking wind, the Base is growing. The People that identify their Political Beliefs inline with "republicanism" is growning. NOT "Big R" Republican, "small r" republican. Hence the Teaparties and the 10 Amendment Support, and all of that.

BTW, I make up all my stats. :woot: It's easier that way.

Sure most of you don't care but on Beck's radio program today he had mentioned there has been an increase in registered Independents, which he is happy about.

I am as well since I have felt this might put the two parties in check which they need to be.

Beck said that?

I'll need evidence beyond the words his delusional mind randomly comes up with.

Just do.

Beck is Libertarian, or thats at least what he says. He may lean Conservative but he scolded both Bush and Obama. It just wasn't as bad on Bush because most people had their heads in the sand.

Has nothing to do with that, really.

I just think Beck is some kind of crazy. He appears to be a lunatic half the time I see him do anything.

Why so serious?

He jokes like almost every single talk show radio host. His sarcasm is off the freaking charts. There are things that bother him that are going down and they should be cause for concern for anyone.

Crazy is all a matter of perspective, right?

I love how last weekend Eric Cantor and others said they was going on a "Listening Tour" untill Boss Limbaugh told them they didn't need a listening tour and the next thing you know Eric Cantor is out there saying it wasn't a listening tour just like Boss Limbaugh told them.:lmao:

Colin Powell looks like he might be that person IMO.
I think Colin Powell would be a great voice for the GOP.

You and I see those teaparties differently. You see them as what they were truly meant to be. I see them as a vehicle for those who still have bad feelings from the election. I do believe that there were people who were genuinely protesting big government, spending, and taxes. Unfortunately, the bigger voices were those that I mentioned who hijacked the protests.

BTW, I make up all my stats. :woot: It's easier that way.

That explains alot. :oldrazz:

I kid, I kid.

I don't expect Colin Powell to go begging anytime soon.

He doesn't hold public office either, which seems the be the problem with even suggesting Limbaugh is an entertainer.

ROBERTA MCCAIN TAKES SWIPE AT LIMBAUGH
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/05/14/mccain-mom-takes-swipe-at-limbaugh/

The always-outspoken Roberta McCain — mother of Sen. John McCain — took a swipe at Rush Limbaugh Wednesday, saying the popular conservative radio host "does not represent the Republican Party that I belong to".

"I belong to the Republican Party," McCain, 97, said during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. "What he represents of the Republican Party has nothing to do with my side of it. I don't know what the man means, I don't know what he's talking about."

McCain also praised Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele for labeling Limbaugh an "entertainer" earlier this year during an interview on CNN.

"I think [Steele] was exactly right when he defined this man as an entertainer," she said. "To my horror, the Republican Party made him back up on it."

LIMBAUGH HITS BACK AT MCCAIN'S MOM
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/05/14/limbaugh-hits-back-at-mccains-mom/

Rush Limbaugh responded to Roberta McCain's criticism of his tough radio persona Thursday, joking over the fact "McCain's mother is dumping on me."

"She is absolutely right" in her assessment that that she belongs to a different Republican Party than he does, Limbaugh said during his radio show: "The Republican Party she belongs to gets shellacked election after election after election."

In an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno Wednesday, the outspoken 97-year-old mother of Sen. John McCain said, to cheers from the audience, that Limbaugh "does not represent the Republican Party that I belong to."

"I belong to the Republican Party," she said. "What he represents of the Republican Party has nothing to do with my side of it. I don't know what the man means, I don't know what he's talking about."

On his show Thursday, Limbaugh made clear he found the criticism quite amusing.

"Sending Sen. McCain's mother out to dump on me?" Limbaugh said, laughing. "I love it."

He's an ass....

You've probably never listened to his show.

Actually, I've listened to his show quite a bit, and watched his TV show on a regular basis when it was on (my mother was a big fan).

So, you are wrong....:yay:

And my opinion still is........he's an ass.

If I had some Kenyans and a hippo, I'd sure be able to change Boss Limbaugh's tune....

Kudos to Mama McCain for standing up to the blowhard.

You know what they say when you "assume" something....
