The Screenwriting Thread

And I'm aware that it seems like I'm self bragging and I am. Nothing wrong with being thrilled about your work. I've worked my ass off the last three years that I've been involved with filmmaking and writing.

Brag away dude. It isn't cocky if you can back it up. Congratulations on the awards.

It's actually pretty extraordinary. I have 11 full length screenplays written, three which won awards, and four short scripts. One of which I made into a film and one I'm currently prepping for to be filmed in two weeks. And I'm only 34 pages into this one and I honestly think it could be the best damn thing I've written. I seriously can't wait to start writing it tomorrow. And if it turns out as good as I think it will, I may actually just film it myself. Go the Rodriguez route and fund it all myself. I would figure it would cost me at most $2000 to make, based off what I've written and where I think I'm taking the story. I don't have to worry about film since I film in digital and I already have my sound equipment. Exciting time.
That's good for you. Seems like you pretty much have everything planned out for yourself. And you know what you wanna do.

11 feature screenplays? How old are you, dude?

Not trying to be a dinglejerk, but I have a hard time believing anyone is capable of having 11 screenplays under their belt before they're, like, 40. Or at least 11 coherent screenplays.

I'm 23. Started writing when I was 19. Well let me be more specific. I have six completely finished screenplays. The other five are still in development. You got to understand something. This is all I do. My work day ends at 9 A.M. So this is practically my second job. It's easy to write when you got so many ideas and a lot of time on your hands. And with no deadlines to worry about, at least for the time being, it ain't all that difficult to have all that work completed.

I have 4 complete scripts, plus a couple still unfinished and a few idea's in the works yet I will get on, when I'm done with the others.

I only really work three days so I have alot of time to work on things alot.

I finally have more ideas for my No Room In hell story. SO far, my story is gonig great.

Hi! Just found this board.

Anyway, long story short, I'm an energetic wannabe screenwriter. I've taken a number of online courses and reading every book I can find. (I'm saving up for some college courses)

I'm 5 and 3/4 pages into writing a script for Aquaman, my second favorite hero (as if you couldn't tell) Anyway, I'm using Celtx and you guys clearly know a whole lot more about this writing thing then I do. So I was wondering if I posted my pages from time to time for you guys to give a once over to. Tell me if I'm doing something wrong, if you like the story, that sort of thing.

I know there's little to know chance my Aquaman script will be made. But this is far to much fun to stop. :)

I highly recommend just doing a film to all the writers out there including you AM217 (welcome to the forums BTW!). With me, at least, I found doing a sort film absolutely gave me a taste of what it's like in the actual field and damn if it isn't cut throat. Your cast. your crew. your producers (everyone has egos that they feel need stroked) everyone wants a piece of you and I actually directed wrote/ or co-wrote the script and stared in my two short films for my fim school class. Everything was riding on me and things have to be changed, things have to be completely removed, you have to have filming locations etc... it's a huge undertaking but it is also great fun if you love what your doing (it helped that my films were dark comedies and my costars where hilariously funny)

That said, I guess what I mean is anyone wanting to write a script would find it very humbling and neccessary to see the whole puzzle and not only study screenwriting but also directing, lighting, sound, etc...

Hope that helped some AM217 and everyone really.

Completely agree. Prepping my second short film right now. Filming starts on October 6. Definitely gives you a better understanding.

I've been trying to film my short for awhile, but every time I get close to doing it, it falls apart. Hopefully I will get to film it soon though.

I have a few ideas. I wrote an outline for a western with contemporary sensibilities. Two different stories. The first is a black slave trying to be the sheriff of a town while trying to avoid the townspeople from killing him. The second, a bounty hunter trying to hunt down the escaped slave. And maybe a third, about a chinaman who's family was killed and has been taken in by the indians. Pretty much knows samurai tricks with native american learnings. Actually, I think all their turning points in their stories may happen at the same time.

And I also dusted off my Wolverine script. I'm really liking it so far. It's about the balance of Logan as a person and as a badass animal. One shouldn't overshadow the other.

But I need advice. I want to make Kaila more than just a fling in Logan's life and not being killed off for dramatic effect. I want peopple to know that she was greatest thing in his life and an honest one. When he loses her, he loses part of his reasoning. Which promts him to get revenge on Victor.

And another thing, I may have different parts of Logan's memory erased during the Weapon X precedure. So when he breaks out there are only flashes and glimpses and faint memories. I'm about 75 pages in. Logan has escaped and is living in the Canadian wilderness. But I don't know how to continue the story.

Just the concept. It's pretty much different. Or I could change that story.

You don't have to change the story. That was just the first thing that came to mind when I read that.

Oh, alright.

I have Sam Jackson in mind for the role of the escaped Slave. I already have a scene in mind when he kills the sheriff and holds up his rifle saying, "Now I'm running this *****!" Keep in mind it has modern sensibilities.

And I keep coming back for Leo DiCaprio to play the bounty hunter pursueing him.

well, i'm in my young teen years, and am now attempting to write my first screenplay. it's going to be a hulk stand alone story. (probably rated PG-13 for action violence and blood.) the villains are set to be MODOK, The leader, and absorbing man.

www.massify.com

They started a production company seeking short comedy scripts. You will get paid big sums of money multiple times depending on if you have to work on it or it gets optioned, etc.

Massify.com itself often has contests for scripts...normally its always comedic.

Damn, i have a comedy one, but its not really short. Is there one for horror ones?

My close friend and I are finally going to get back into filmmaking, and he wants me to pen the script I got the idea for inspired by the "character holding the camera" perspective, seen in Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield. However, it won't be a horror or a thriller, it'll be a very realistic mockumentary-style movie based on horrific events that actually happened (which I've done a great deal of study on, and want to show more sides to the events than what people normally see and/or assume).

My friend loves the idea. I'm hoping it turns out well.

If you watch The Look I don't know if you'd consider that horror....but really, I would shorten a long one or come up with something new.
