The sun will set for the last time on "The O.C." when the series ends its four-season run Thursday, Feb. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on Fox. The countdown has begun, with all-original episodes airing from Thursday, Jan. 4 through the last episode on Feb. 22.

"The O.C." stars Peter Gallagher (Sandy Cohen), Kelly Rowan (Kirsten Cohen), Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan Atwood), Adam Brody (Seth Cohen), Melinda Clarke (Julie Cooper), Rachel Bilson (Summer Roberts), Autumn Reeser (Taylor Townsend) and Willa Holland (Autumn Reeser).

Set in Orange County, California, "The O.C." premiered in August 2003. It follows a group of friends and families whose lives were changed by the arrival of an outsider Ryan Atwood to their ocean-side community of Newport Beach.

"The O.C." revived the teen drama genre while including humorous and heartfelt adult storylines. Shortly after its summer premiere, "The O.C." was a pop culture phenomenon its actors are household names and its indie music (and subsequent six soundtracks) and hip California wardrobe are sought-after in stores. The shows Newport Beach locale also has become a popular tourist attraction as fans visit the real locations featured in their favorite episodes.

"'The O.C.' Season Four finale will also be the series finale. This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close," said Josh Schwartz, creator and executive producer of "The O.C." "Thanks to the hard work of our cast, crew and writers, we have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top. It has been an amazing experience and a great run. For a certain audience, at a certain time, 'The O.C.' has meant something. For that we are grateful."

About damn time.
That thing was dead when it premiered, I guess it's finally stopped twitching.

I just hope this show does not pull a 7th Heaven

I hope not.
And I hope it's replacement isn't some crappy crime drama or a show just like it.

Awwwww........too bad. :D
Crappy show, IMO.

I knew once I stopped watching it this was going to happen.
I still  Ryan and Seth. :csad:

"It's about time to end it" sounds more like "They don't plan on picking us up for another season"

This show went from "We must give this boy a second chance in life, there's good in him" to "She slept with my friend's cousin's mother's uncle's pimp *****" within 5 episodes.

This sucks, really, sucks.

The show perked up to very good quality this season. Oh well, better relish the last 8 episodes then.

The show was just getting good again! This wouldn't have happened if they had just killed off Marissa in season one like I've always said they should have done, but NO! We had to endure three seasons of your see-sawing drug addiction, faux-lesbianism, general badgirl posturing, and on again/off again relationship with Ryan! Ryan could have had his whole badboy relapse and it would have been better since he was still adjusting to being with the Cohens, instead of doing all that fight club/bar dwelling crap from this recent season premiere after having been with the Cohens the last three years.

KenK, i officially love you! I felt the same way and quit watching after Ssn 1. I had written it off completely, mostly due to evil Marissa ((and honestly, when she did that lesbian bit, I couldn't help but go: "I knew it!!!" :whatever: )), and I was sure the show would never be watchable again. Then, not too long ago, my best friend told me "you HAVE to find this online and watch it, it's fantastic! and the new girl is YOU." So, of course, I found some episodes, and I *love* Taylor!!!

The show really has gotten good again, people are moving on with their lives, they're able to actually *gasp!* be happy, and the writing is back to being funny and interesting. They even catch you off-guard sometimes, and I'm lovin' every minute of it!

Man, I really, really, REALLY hope the CW picks it up. Cancelling now would be such a shame! A waste of good talent, good characters, and great relationships that are just barely getting started.

I enjoyed the first two seasons but honestly the show didn't have much steam. How much is there to tell about 4 bratty teenagers? I enjoyed it for the parents but then wife went off the deep end and became an alcoholic and Caleb died, I mean right there teh show just lost it's appeal and became far too maudlin. Sandy was the best part of the show :o

the OC jumped the shark after the first season. Ryan I am bad one week good the next thing got boring. Only so much brooding peeps can watch I one series.

God, I hated Marissa. I was glad when the stupid ***** died. Sadden as well, but couldn't wait for the next season.

February?

Is this seasons shorter than most or something? That seems kind of early; most shows are only just coming back from hiatus. :0

(In the most Jerry Seinfeld-like voice I can do) That's a shame.
