So, the first issue of the Luna Brothers next big project came out last week, and it looks like it's off to a good start.

So, we are introduced to the Brighton family. Specifically Dara Brighton, a young paraplegic artist, living with her loving parents, trying to exercise her independence. They have a pretty good life going, until something from the fathers past comes back to bite him in the ass. (Or rather shoot a lightening bolt up it, as it were.) A trio of *****e bags sporting some serious powers show up while the Brighton's are having their family dinner, demanding a sword that the father had supposedly stolen. From the looks of things, the old guy didn't know wtf they were going on about. Hell, the *****e bags weren't even sure after they had slaughtered everybody except Dara. They decide to cut their loses and let the Brighton's place burn to the ground. Before they have a chance to finish Dara off, the floor gives way and she falls into the crawlspace under the house. There she finds the sword. Touching it magically heals her wounds and her legs. She stands, for the first time in years, in total f**king shock. The question I would be asking is why did that son of a b***h father of hers let his family get horribly murdered and not just tell them the damn things under the house? That's what i'd be asking. I'd kick his corpse once I got back upstairs, but that's just me.

Now, this isn't exactly revolutionizing things. I coulda saw it coming a mile away what would eventually happen. But like most things, it's all in the presentation. And once again, the Luna's represent. Looking forward to seeing where this series goes. I'm assuming it's a mini, so it's likely got a definite end. Good stuff.

Supposedly it's another 24 issue series. Anyway, I read the first issue and loved it. The emotion that the Lunas are able to get across across a printed page is incredible. This one's the best debut issue I've read in a long time.

Those guys sure know how to draw people getting killed well. Every death is just so damn disturbing, as it should be.

I did. I haven't read Ultra yet and I'm about halfway through Girls, but I've decided to follow this book from the start. Tracking down back issues for Image books is a *****. Anyway, the first two issues were great. I know a lot of people can't get into the art, but the story and dialogue are flawless. And I like the art. It's very subtle and nuanced.

Yeah, the Lunas are great story tellers.

Very, very impressed with the comic so far, the story is just so engaging the characters feel so amazingly real.

Have you read Girls? Those characters felt more real to me then in any other comic book I've ever read. The Lunas are insanely good.

I haven't read it, but I'm going to check it out.

I just finished #3. This book is excellent. Definitely one of the best new books of the year.

Like I said, nobody draws people getting horribly killed like the Lunas

Just picked up the first trade of Girls. Will read it soon. How does it compare with The Sword?

So far, I think it's been just as good as Girls was at this point, if not better.

I'm enjoying The Sword more than Girls. While Girls was good, it was written from a totally male point of view, and sometimes I thought the whole Sperm Monster and sex-crazed girls thing went a bit far out there. (Plus, I never understood the visions the main guy was having at the end, talking to the main Girl.) Also, didn't like the ending of Girls. Everything went at a certain pace throughout all the issues; then, the last couple just seemed rushed to finish it off. I wonder if they got bored with it.

If I decided to pick this up, how many issues behind would I be?

So, issue 5. More grisly killing, and now we probably got another organization after Dara. Okay issue, but next one may have a bit more info on her pops and just what's the deal with the sword.

The "pirates" seemed kinda convenient in the latest issue. The guitar case was a cool idea, though.

The Pirates of Convenience...I think that's the title for the next Depp "Jack Sparrow" movie.
