Been watching video essays on this film and remembering how it was brushed off as an Aladdin ripoff. It has an interesting history with amazing animation. Unfortunately, Richard Williams was a perfectionist and couldn't meet deadlines or stay on budget, so eventually it was taken over by Warner Bros. via a clause in their contract with him under the name The Princess and the Cobbler. It flopped and a second cut was made by Miramax under a new name, Arabian Knight. This is a fan recut with unfinished storyboard and animation spliced in to get closer to Williams's vision.

Zigzag is amazing. The Thief is great comedic relief, but maybe a tad too much is focused on him as Tack and Yum Yum are treated as an afterthought in the story. I understand Tack is the silent male protagonist for the audience to imprint themselves on, but he's only in about 30 minutes of the film. Side note: thank goodness these characters did not debut in the age of Tumblr.
