The Up, Up and Away Show with Captain Awesome

For television production class we had to put together a screenplay (to film) that poses as a show teaching 'sign language' communication skills. I chose to construct it around a hero parody mold. As for who these characters are: For Awesome Boy think Jason Lee and for Captain Awesome think Bruce Willis. Polar opposites.

[FONT=&quot]And they say that a hero can save us. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]NOTE: Awesome Boy is a horrible singer, kind of resembling a cat scratching on a chalkboard. Yep, that bad-[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]TRANSITION TO:[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]INT. STUDIO[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]AWESOME BOY[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]The music stops playing.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]I’ll hold onto the… [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Awesome Boy notices that the music has stopped and that he’s on air. He nervously laughs and he itches the back of his neck- awkward. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot](childish flamboyant)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Welcome to the… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](trying to sound manly)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]‘Up, Up, and Away Show’ [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Starring Captain Awesome!!! And me, his trust worthy ward sidekick here to teach YOU… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](points at the audience)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]The ROPES… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](pretends that he is climbing up a rope)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Last week we talked about villainous mad men who want to take over the world. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]SEE A GRAPHIC OF VILLAINS. ONE OF THEM IS ESPECIALLY EVIL. THIS IS DOCTOR MANIAC! [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]AWESOME BOY (O.S.)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Such as our arch nemesis, Doctor Maniac! One huge pain in the BEEP! [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]On Awesome boy looking around stunned. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]AWESOME BOY[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]What the BEEP?! Come on! I’m BEEP sixteen years old! I can swear- can’t I? [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]This is a family show. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Awesome Boy nervously laughs. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Well, anyways without further adieu let’s welcome the one… the only… the man who taught me everything I know…[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](puts his hands on his hips in a comically heroic pose)[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]We hear thunderous APPLAUSE. Captain Awesome walks in grinning and waving like an actor would walk down the red carpet. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]CAPTAIN AWESOME[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Thank you, thank you… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Awesome Boy stands by hyper excited. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]AWESOME BOY[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Do we have a show for you! Tell them, tell them what it’s about… [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Captain Awesome looks at Awesome Boy with a raise eyebrow… he knows this kid is hyper. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]CAPTAIN AWESOME[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Today we’re teaching YOU… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](points at audience)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]How to COMMUNICATE[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](his hands imitate a mouth talking)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]With other SUPERHEROES…[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](puts his hands on his hips in a REAL heroic pose)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]And the POLICE… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](imitates showing a badge and aiming a gun)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Which comes in handy for all heroes in training… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Especially if you’re just a lonely nerd from Queens whose editor keeps shafting him and- [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]So… the first lesson of the day is how to talk to other SUPERHEROES. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](puts arms on hips in heroic pose)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]If you see another hero running around in tights… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]AWESOME BOY[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]One question… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Captain Awesome looks at Awesome Boy, caught off guard.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]AWESOME BOY[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Why do we still wear tights? Everybody else upgraded! [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Captain Awesome nervously laughs. He grins, shrugging his shoulders and says. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]CAPTAIN AWESOME[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Because… we’re AWESOME![/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Captain Awesome gives the audience the thumbs up.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Awesome Boy shrugs, not happy with the answer. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]CAPTAIN AWESOME[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]So if you want to COMMUNICATE… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](his hands imitate talking)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]With other HEROES[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](puts his hands on his hips in a heroic pose)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]The first thing you want to do is tell them that you’re TIGHT…[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](does the classic “we’re tight” hand signals)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]And that you are also, a SUPERHERO![/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](He puts his right hand up in the air signaling flight)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Then the two of you can go FIGHT… [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot](fakes fighting)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Together, prowling the rooftops and alleyways at night, ridding Star City of EVIL![/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Captain Awesome mocks a classic super-villain laugh. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]AWESOME BOY[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Radical! [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]CAPTAIN AWESOME[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]And talking to the police is simple… just put out your hand telling them to STOP [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Captain Awesome and Awesome Boy put out their hands signaling for the police to STOP.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]CAPTAIN AWESOME[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Tell them to LOWER THEIR WEAPONS…[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Captain Awesome and Awesome Boy wave their hands down signaling to lower the weapons. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]CAPTAIN AWESOME[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]And then signal that you are a SUPERHERO! [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Captain Awesome and Awesome Boy put their hands on their hips in a heroic pose. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]The lights turn off! We hear evil laughter![/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]DOCTOR MANIAC (O.S.)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]It is time to shut you down forever… Captain Awesome! [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Not today Doctor Maniac. We’re sending you back to where you belong.[/FONT]
