I like how Marvel Comics' Captain America speaks to a modern era anxiety regarding political trust, reliable patriotism, and democratic nationalism (if there is such a thing!). Captain America represents the fortune of the American Dream tempered by the social responsibility of civilian protection on a national scale.
After 9/11, the world thought very differently about 'homeland security,' so Captain America comics naturally became more appealing, and Hollywood (USA) generated two full-length live-action films about Captain America (Steve Rogers).
So this is a fan-fic in honor of 'Cap' and it tells the story of Rogers travelling through time and landing in Warsaw (Poland) during World War II (1939-1945) and engaging with Operation Valkyrie.

Dr. Thoroughgood successfully designed a perfect time-travel device for Captain America to use to travel across epochs in world history and deal with the worst warlords and war-based human struggles such as Nazi Germany, Bosnia, Ancient Rome, etc., etc. Rogers was given the option to determine his first 'time-destination,' and he naturally chose World War II (1939-1945). Dr. Thoroughgood (fully-licensed by the U.S. government and its special war-crimes analysis-division known as the War Board) programmed his time-travel device to send Captain America to 1940 Warsaw (Poland).
Captain America awoke from unconsciousness and realized he landed in 1940 Poland, where there were eerie developments regarding Adolf Hitler's ominous 'Third Reich.' Captain America thought about how much Hitler reminded him of his lifelong super-fascist nemesis, Red Skull and oddly wondered if the super-villain (Red Skull) had somehow found his way to WWII as well (using a time-travel device of his own!). For now, Captain America was interested in finding the members of Operation Valkyrie (a special unit within the Third Reich committed to assassinating their Fuhrer, Hitler, because of his fanatical decision-making.
Captain America secured key positions in Poland, arming civilians in special ditches (equipped with home-made explosives and miniature-rifles re-assembled from spare parts strewn across Europe during the rise of Nazi Germany --- parts Rogers gathered while roaming around Europe. Captain America then used a special (stolen) radio-system to contact Colonel Claus Philipp Maria Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg (leader of Operation Valkyrie!) and request his assistance in fortifying Poland and then contacting Stalingrad for back-up (while the Allied Forces waited to step into the action!). Stauffenberg informed Captain America that the key to the entire war was to map the terrain of land-mines laid across the European army by the German 'machine' (since Hitler used mines but personally found them very shocking).
As Stauffenberg's forces tried to establish networks with Stalin's Soviet Union, Captain America went about trying to mark all mine locations (especially those in Poland). Meanwhile, the German 'machine' rolled onwards to 'dark glory.' Captain America knew America would not join in the fight until after the trauma of Pearl Harbor, so he depended on Operation Valkyrie's members to make important headway while Captain America himself went about moving all German mines to Berlin! Captain America employed a mine-diffuser and used his own war-field mapping skills and field hand-to-hand combat skills to neutralize symbolic roadways and begin transporting the mines into Berlin (to confound Hitler!).
As Captain America remarked on the elegance and ingenuity of this grand 'scheme' to diffuse the Third Reich, Dr. Thoroughgood had him unfortunately transported back to modern America! When Captain America awoke from consciousness, he was shocked and disturbed that he was transported back home before his mission against the Nazis was completed. Dr. Thoroughgood informed Captain America that Operation Valkyrie would have to suffice in deposing Hitler while the Allied Forces prepared to step in and seal the victory against Hitler, since right now, Red Skull had taken U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump as hostages in the White House, demanding Captain America show up to listen to his demands! Captain America prepared to now confront his old nemesis Red Skull, but secretly (in the back of his mind), Captain America wondered if Red Skull orchestrated this whole 'hostage-fiasco' to draw Captain America away from Valkyrie, so the Third Reich could continue its 'reign of terror.' Captain America muttered to himself, "I hope America someday decides to commemorate Operation Valkyrie!"
